I remember seeing the original TV special about this group - I think it was "20/20" - where they were shown making & marketing this album. The idea was to show how a group goes from getting discovered to gettting signed & making an album. I really thought the group was fantastic, and the songs still hold up well today; they don't really sound like much else from the time. It's pop, certainly, put there's a mid-period Devo edge that makes The Innocents cut a little harder than most other groups. A few of the members have gone on to film scoring fame, but I'm sorry they didn't really "make it" based on this album. Whenever I go record shopping I look for this LP; when I find one, I buy it & give it as a gift. GOOD STUFF.

I ALSO saw the TV special about this band, however I recall it airing on a weekend afternoon. I recall one of the producers/managers of the band was Derrel Maury who played Jughead on the TV show "Archie"! (My brain hurts.)
Anyhow, I had just gotten my first car, the horrible Vega which had an aluminum engine block. Genius? Certainly not. Check the gas and fill the oil.
ANYWAY...I was driving in my neighborhood and listening to the cassette recording I had made of the record. I was singing Sob Story at the top of my lungs and, necessarily, screaming. Two girls passed me, heard me and were laughing uproariously as they went.
