As good as the high priced brand,

I purchased the Innova Color Cast 5 quart round porcelain enameled Cast Iron Round Dutch Oven for several reasons. I had seen similar products with non-stick interiors and didn't like this feature. I also considered the high priced French Brand but decided to try this model at 1/3 the price. I used the Dutch oven to make Coc Au Vin and was very pleased. I browned, carmelized, deglazed and simmered. The food was delicious and the clean up was effortless.

I usually cook almost exclusively with Lodge Logic pre-seasoned cast iron cookware (Dutch ovens, skillets, etc.) and they are superb. However, when I make pasta sauce in their 5 quart Dutch oven, and simmer the sauce for several hours, the acidity of the tomato puree added to the sauce erodes the seasoning that coats the cast iron. This requires re-seasononing, which isn't difficult but is somewhat time consuming. I figured I'd try the Innova porcelain covered cast iron, but expected it to be lighter and cheaper than the Lodge Duch oven. Much to my surprise, it proved to be perfect for making sauce. It's heavy, retains heat well and the cover fits perfectly. Even better, after making sauce, all you have to do is rinse and wipe - no re-seasoning. If you like to simmer sauce for a long time, as I do, put this on the top of your shopping list. Also, consider buying a heat diffuser so you have no "hot" spots when you simmer. I use two different ones, and both are good. One is made by Nordic Ware, and the other by ILSA, an Italian company. They can be found in catalogues or with a Google search.

I ordered this in blue since it cost so mush less than the others but there is something you should know. Innova has gone out of business as of this April and any warranty is worthless. You can read all about it on HSN Bulletin Boards under the threads Ultrex.

This pot is a real deal. Many of the competition to this pot are triple this price and some of their handles are not oven safe. This one can go from stovetop to the oven and clean so easy. It is very non stick!! Also retains heat to keep things warm for a long time. It is large enough to do a large chicken with lots of potatoes and carrots etc. Innova makes cookware in their plant for some of the most expensive cookware on the market. This is better because of the price!!

My husband rushed to get this for me for Christmas 2006 after we read Mark Bittman's now legendary (among home bakers) article on baking bread in the 8 November 2006 issue of the NY Times. It calls for heating an empty cast iron or enamelware Dutch oven at high heat before tossing in the dough. We had an old cast iron Dutch oven which we had been avoiding because of clean-up difficulties, found the bread worked fine in it and decided we'd have occasions to make more than one loaf at a time and needed something else. This does a great job and it cleans up beautifully in soap and water week after week with no worries of rust. It distributes heat well. Also works great atop the stove. It is heavy as to be expected and you need thick potholders to grab the handles when it has been in a 450 degree oven.

I bought the Dutch oven for my grandmother she is 80 years old for her birthday. She loved it she made every thing in it. but after six months the porcelain on the bottom poped off in a chip when she was cooking something. She did every thing right with it. I am now looking for a new brand to try. the price on it is great so I wonder if it pays to spend the extra money.

I was somewhat hesitant to buy this product because of reviews about problems with chipping, but finally decided to try it anyway. I bought two of them on another site and spent less than half the Amazon price for each one. I also bought two of their roaster pans at an excellent price on the same site.I am so glad I did! This has fast become my favorite pot. I love the weight but take notice if you have wrist or hand problems. This is a very heavy pot even without food in it. It heats evenly and cooks faster than most pots-another thing to take note of. I have had it about 5 months now and have used them both on top of the stove and in the oven and so far have had no problems whatsoever with chipping on any of the four pans and since Innova has gone out of business,I hope I have no future problems.

Writeup not entirely accurate, but reviews are....,
This review is from: Innova Color Cast Porcelain Enameled Cast Iron 5-Quart Round Dutch Oven, Blue (Kitchen)
Mine says not 'Innova' but 'Kitchen-Select'. It also warns that the dutch oven should be hand-washed and not placed in the dishwasher. There are some rough edges...after all, this is a Chinese product. However, the top fits fairly tightly, there were no 'dings' or scratches, and the pan is as heavy as its more expensive counterparts. For about 1/2 the price of the similar French cookware, this is a good buy.

If Amazon is going to continue selling this line, the least Amazon can do is warn its customers that the company went out of business and the "warrenty" is worthless.
