This review is from: Innova EVO Dry Ferret Food (Misc.)
Ferrets are obligate carnivores. They do not digest fiber well, and excess carbs in their diet is the most likely reason that we see such a high incidence of insulinoma in the USA (and other places where ferrets are fed kibble diets). The standard ferret (including zupreem or 8 in 1 ultimate) or cat food is estimated to contain upwards of 30% carbs!!! A ferret's natural diet (from looking at their cousin, the european polecat, from which Mustello furo is essentially genetically indistinguishable) should be mostly protein and fat, *very* low carb. Innova evo is guaranteed to be under 10% carbs, and it has the protein and fat that my fuzzies need to stay healthy. I can't recommend this food enough. I mix this food with Totally Ferret baby (which is the only TF food I really prefer...42% protein, less than 6% carbs, no corn, which is allergenic for many ferrets). If you don't want to order IE on the internet, you can go to their website and look for local retailers. My local natural pet food store will order a bag for me and not charge me shipping.

Makes for healthy ferrets,

This review is from: Innova EVO Dry Ferret Food (Misc.)
This is the best food for ferrets! My female ferret ate standard cat food (under care of old owner) and had hollowed out hips/abdomen area. To rectify this, my vet immediately recommended Innova EVO ferret food. It took a little for Chitter to start eating it but she is now completely hooked. Her abdomen is no longer hollowed and her coat is so much shinier and softer. Also, her feces have almost no smell. This is so much easier to deal with when cleaning out her box. Without a doubt, I would recommend this product. If you think it's a little expensive, it's well worth it. My picky critters love it!

Best ferret food,
This review is from: Innova EVO Dry Ferret Food (Misc.)
This food contains premium grade ingredients and is mostly meat based. This is what ferrets need a meat based diet with the bulk of the protein coming from meat. It's high in protein and high in fat which is what you want in a ferrets diet. With no grains, fillers, by-products or chemicals like BHA/BHT you are truly getting a product that's worth the money you spend. This is truly an awesome product for ferrets and the company has been making great food for animals for years.

This is the only food I will feed to my ferrets. There are very little fillers and only good stuff in this food and they love it. The only complaint is it makes their poop stain my carpet more, but if its good for them...

Super high quality food for elderly ferrets,

Evo has become a very popular choice for both ferret shelters and individual ferret people who want to feed their companions the highest quality natural ferret food available. There has been an explosion recently of higher quality, more natural food for ferrets that ramps up the protein and tones down the carbohydrates, and Evo is one of those foods. On the down side, Evo is famous for being rejected by a lot of ferrets who don't like the taste, but there's only one way to find out if your ferret will like it. I suggest mixing it in slowly with other brands. I currently feed my ferrets a blend of Evo, Instinct, and ZuPreem and that has worked out well. One of my ferrets (who has insulinoma, adrenal disease, AND lymphoma) enjoys Evo a lot after not liking it at first, and I feed her individual pieces as a treat. She is thriving and has outlived her prognosis. Give Evo a try if you're looking for a premium ferret food and are concerned about ingredient quality & protein level.

Ingredients read well, but...,

This review is from: Innova EVO Dry Ferret Food (Misc.)
I did a lot of research in picking out a nutritious ferret food for my two little guys, Mr.Fox & Sneak. Evo Ferret Food ingredients read better than any other food out in the market that I was able to find, but for our two ferrets this food did not work for them. They both had diarrhea constantly while on this food...I went through three bags before deciding my ferrets would never adjust to the food. I switched to another premium food and the problem instantly cleared up(within a day!). Now I just feel so guilty for being so loyal to a food that I thought would be so healthy for the both of them. My vet seemed to think it was because the food has a lot of fruits, vegetables, and dairy. If your ferrets digest it well I would say you are getting the best, but if you aren't seeing solid stools switch to a different premium brand!

I had heard good things about Innova but had never tried it with my ferrets. I've been very pleased with their response to it. Though I always mix a new food in slowly there is usually a slight change in their bowel movements, this time I didn't notice any changes. Their coats have thickened and are shiny. My older ferret's sensitive tummy didn't even have an adverse reaction.

My ferrets are now in better health. Their coats are softer and they seem to have gotten rid of the dry skin. Very good deal for the price.

one of the best,

As obligate carnivores, ferrets need a meat-based diet. Most ferret foods are corn-based, causing more poop, dry hair and skin, and an increased risk of insulinoma later in life. Compared to a food like Marshalls, your ferret will eat half as much of EVO (more concentrated nutrition), will have a more lustrous coat, will poop half as much (!) and be all around much healthier. Be prepared for your ferret to experience some diarrhea if switching from a grain-based food, but I promise that feeding this food will result in a longer-lived ferret with far less vet bills!
