4.0 out of 5 stars A Pocketful Of Information
I've been on the lookout for a small, low-cost weather radio without digital display that I could put in my pocket. I found The Innovage Outdoor at a truckstop for $7.99 and despite the mixed reviews, I figured the price was low enough to take a chance. 2 AAA batteries insert easily in the back of the unit, and the radio is switched on/off using the volume control located...

1.0 out of 5 stars Innovage AM/FM Weather Band Radio
I bought this item and it has been useless. The FM reception is very poor, but the worst problem is in the weather band. I have not been able to hear one word on this. The tiny pamplet is extremely brief, containing more instruction on battery installation than anything else. It is completely void of any information on how to contact the manufacturer. As far as I'm...

I've been on the lookout for a small, low-cost weather radio without digital display that I could put in my pocket. I found The Innovage Outdoor at a truckstop for $7.99 and despite the mixed reviews, I figured the price was low enough to take a chance. 2 AAA batteries insert easily in the back of the unit, and the radio is switched on/off using the volume control located on the right-hand side. A small green LED indicates radio and battery power. The radio received well on all bands, even being able to hear NOAA in a wooded area well away from a local transmitter. The quality control seems to vary from unit to unit, with some getting great reception and others being night useless for hearing anything. My particular radio functions wonderfully. The AM, FM, and weather bands are clear and receive a bounty of stations, and a small red LED illuminates when the weather band is activated. The antenna rotates from the left hand side, can be used as a kickstand when listening to AM and stronger FM, or fully extended for weather or tougher catches. A nice feature is a white LED flashlight on top of the radio that can be rotated 180 degrees for late-night outings. Although the radio has a small speaker, it is clear and quite loud. The headphone jack located near the volume control has plenty of punch, so the volume should be kept low when using headphones. A small plastic plate extends from the underside to keep the unit steady while sitting upright. The directions are fairly basic, but with the minimal amount of features offered, they are more than adequate. The build quailty seems durable, and the small size makes it easy to drop in a pocket or jacket. For the price, I would have to say that this a great little travel radio for a small outing or weekend trip.

This is a pretty cool radio. It is small enough to take anywhere. The reception is remarkable good, both AM and FM. Tuning the AM/FM and weather band is quite simple. And it picks up a lot of stations.

Though the price is attractive this little radio is hardly worth the plastic it is built in. I personally live near a NOAA tower for the radio. Heck I even can see it from my backyard. This little radio can't even pick it up. It can hardly pickup any of the FM stations in town too! The light it produces is very poor, even with brand new batteries.

Don't waste your money on this radio.

2.0 out of 5 stars Quality control issues make this the luck of the draw, January 12, 2007

I've been reading reviews for this unique radio that range from very poor to fantastic. From my experience, they are all correct as there seems to the factor of getting a good one or a dud. Mine has a great FM tuner, but very poor AM and weather band. FM works as good as you could ever expect and then some. AM is so poor that every station on the dial bleeds over on each other (I am assuming it's a defect). Weather band is very weak overall. I could barely pick up my local station.

The LED flashlight works very well.

Overall it's truly the luck of the draw. You might get a good one, you might get a dud. Down side is, you feel cheated when you get a dud!

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than the other unit., April 1, 2007
A Kid's Review

We bought this at Menards along with a Sprignfielf Precise temperature radio which also has an alert system.
While the SPT unit has a digital tunning system, and doesnt have to be switched to a different mode to hear weather reports, I like this one better. The SPT unit also has a growl on the standby mode.
When I first tested the weather band, however, I wasnt able to hear the guys voice at all.
But then, as I tuned towards the 100 Mark on the scale, I could faintly hear the guys voice.
Then, as I walked around, I was able to find a spot where it came in.
It actually has pretty good reception for being so small.
I think its pretty good for [...].
I think we should have purchased 2 of these instead of one of these and the STP unit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Little Radio, August 5, 2007
This review is from: Innovage Outdoor AM/FM Weather Band Radio with LED Light (Sports)
I bought one of these on sale a few years ago for my 85 year old mom who was laid up in the hospital. Hospitals never play music. All they have is a limited amount of cable tv with a bad tuning method.

I could only pick up about two MW stations in the hospital. The weather bands work, but are a little twitchy - keep pressing the weather button and you'll get one. They are perfectly clear and understandable.

Mom likes the classical stations. Little radios like this love sweet spots. When you get the radio positioned right, there's your classical station, loud and clear.

The audio quality is loud and clear for the price. Mom was able to fill the entire room pleasantly. It's not tinny or distorted. It's very enjoyable. Nurses would hear the music, come in and look around to see where it was coming from. They couldn't believe it came from such a small radio. I watched half a dozen people do the same thing.

The battery life is tremendous. Mom was in for two weeks at a time, listened to the radio for hours each day, and listened at pretty loud volume levels as she's hard of hearing. Yet the batteries held up perfectly. A year later she went in for another week and the batteries were still perfect for another week of loud listening.

She also likes listening to it at home. Since it's analog and just has the tuning knob on the side, she knows how to use it. She'd be lost with something complicated.

For cost, ease of use, performance, sound quality, volume, and battery life, this little thing is a big winner. And it comes with a handy emergency light, which even swivels.

If you have a use for it, you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Got us through the 2011 Alabama tornado weather and power outage, May 2, 2011
This review is from: Innovage Outdoor AM/FM Weather Band Radio with LED Light (Sports)
This radio/lantern came in SO handy during the April 2011 tornado weather, massive power outage in North Alabama! Especially because it's compact, uses only 2 aaa batteries, and switches to the weather band. If one comes available, I highly recommend acquiring it!

Works, and is obviously low cost, but during an emergency with noise all around I would want (and should be willing to pay for) a better radio.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product for the cost, January 11, 2007
This review is from: Innovage Outdoor AM/FM Weather Band Radio with LED Light (Sports)
This is a very compact weatherband radio. I was amazed at how well it picked up radio stations and different weather band frequencies. Well worth the money
