Well made, sturdy, will work as an emergency tool.

Overall, the Trucker's Friend is lighter, makes a better hammer and axe, and easier on the hands than the Annihilator.

Over all I would suggest this tool to anyone that camps, is an EMT, Police officer, Firefighter or survivalist.

The Trucker's Friend (aka the Handy/Rescue Tool) came to my attention following the May 2011 tornado in Joplin. I served as a search-and-rescue volunteer following the tornado that devastated the city. Search-and-Rescue (SAR) teams are self-equipped, and need to carry appropriate supplies, gear and tools for the mission. Weight and efficiency are big considerations. The Trucker's Friend is an ideal tool because it does so much, and conserves weight by not having to carry several tools. The Trucker's Friend is a versatile, lightweight and affordable tool.

Even if you are not part of a SAR team, this is a tool that any home-owner or construction worker would appreciate.

This is a handy tool for lots of things as other reviews will tell you, but with all the FUBARs and Annihilators and other multi-use hammer/prybar combo tools out there, how does it compare? As owner of one of the best of these tools, the 18-inch Dead-On Annihilator, I can tell you.
(Note that my review of the Annihilator will tell you the difference between the 14-inch and 18-inch versions of that tool, if you're comparing those.)

Feel: The Trucker's Friend is lighter than the Annihilator thanks to its fiberglass handle where the Annihilator is all steel with a hard plastic sleeve around the grip. The Friend's actual grip is shock-absorbing rubber designed to provide an extremely good grip even if you have on thick gloves. The ridges are set to keep it from sliding out of your hand. The Annihilator's grip is hard plastic and does not aid grip or absorb shock at all, and was my main complaint about that tool. Using the Annihilator as a hammer without padded gloves is painful.

Construction: The Trucker's Friend is well-made. It has enough steel below the blade and hammer poll to protect the handle from overstrikes, and the steel is good axe-steel, probably drop-forged. The fiberglass handle is stronger than most people could break. The Annihilator stood up to two days of demolishing a fence for me, but reviews for it show that others aren't so lucky, so there may be quality-control issues with that tool. The Friend doesn't appear to have that problem. Since MY Annihilator is fine, I'll call this a tie.

Power: The heavier weight of the Annihilator should make strikes with it more powerful than the Friend, but it doesn't because too much of the weight is in the shaft.

The Truckers Friend and the exceptional quality of the product can be used for many things around the house, while camping or hiking it is not a tool to only be carried on a truck. Well worth the price.

From the picture on this product page, it looks like the "blade" is larger than the handle. In reality, the blade is fairly small in proportion to the entire package. The firs thing I thought when I opened it was that it didn't look right, so I re-checked the page here and saw that the product was "on hold". I'm guessing for this reason???

Anyway, it's a nice destruction tool. Good weight, fiberglass handle with a heavy rubber grip. I tested it pulling nails, and there's little to no flex in the handle when pulling regular nails. You can really get it to move if you're pulling the old, heavy nails out of larger posts. But that's normal for any hammer.

The blade isn't super sharp, could use a good run over a sharpening wheel. But out of the box it can do some serious damage to walls/boards. I used it to smack up some fiber-board pieces from an old desk kit. Worked great.

Overall, a nice tool, and face it, it looks cool. I'm sure that's one reason these are popular.

But take a look at the OTHER product page on Amazon, it shows another angle of the tool and you can see the oversize much more clearly.

The tool shipped a lot sooner than the ETA of the company. Cool Beans. Now, the size of the tool is about the length of a framing hammer. Definitely smaller than what you'd think. But, it's not as heavy as you'd think, so I like that. The "Rescue" version looks about 2" longer, with the addition of the valve cut off's in the blade. Sorry, but it is not worth $40 more for the extra 2 inches. Also, for $50, they could have thrown in a better sheath. Oh well. It will make a good addition to my Jeep. On a side note, I did a magnet test. This is not a full tang tool. There's good and bad either way you look at it. Also, looking at it from the front, the hammer part is not concentric with the blade. I don't believe this will affect it in use...but I'm a little OCD, and it bothers me. Take it with a grain of salt. But, it's kind of like the "squeek" you never noticed in your car, until someone points it out to you, and now it's the first thing you notice. Happy camping, chopping, and zombie killing.

Just got this tool yesterday and I am very happy with my purchase! I did a lot of research on this product and loved that it is made of heat treated steel. NOT COLD STEEL. It also has a life time replacement Guarantee. My only complaints are the sheath is junk and the edge on the ax was not sharp at all. I mean it literally has a 1-2 mill edge. But that was an easy fix with a bench grinder and a wet stone. The weight is good and it feels good in your hand too. The only weakness maybe the shaft. Im not sure if there is a metal bar through it or if its just fiberglass. but either way if it ever breaks they will replace it for free. and if its during the Apocalypse I will just through a wood shaft and handle on it with a bolt. Over all I would suggest this tool to anyone that camps, is an EMT, Police officer, Firefighter or survivalist. GREAT TOOL, VERY STRONG, AND MADE IN AMERICA WITH PA STEEL! Shipping was great.
