Frequently Asked Questions:

1. Can I put my solar panel anywhere?

a. Your solar panel needs to be placed outside in a sunny area and needs to face the southern sky. If it is in the shade it will still charge, but not as well as in the sun. If it is behind glass, it may not charge properly.

2. What if the power cord isn’t long enough to suit my needs?

a. 15 foot extension cords are available from MAXSA Innovations. You can connect more than one if you need to, however it is recommended that no more than three are used.

3. How long will the light stay on?

a. The light will stay on as long as it detects motion and the battery has power. When fully charged, the battery should be able to provide up to 170 minutes of light in total before it needs to be recharged. If there is no motion, the light will turn off after 10 seconds to four minutes, depending on where you set the TIME dial.

4. What type of batteries does it use and how long do they last?

a. This light uses 3 rechargeable AA batteries. They should last at least 3 years, depending on use. When it is time to replace the batteries, you can replace them with rechargeable AA batteries from any battery retailer.

5. How long does my light need to charge before I can turn it on?

a. You should do an initial charge of three days with the solar panel connected and the light switch in the OFF position. After that, you can switch the light to AUTO. It should charge enough during the day to last through every night.

6. Will the light stay on all night long?

a. No. This light is motion-activated only. It will stay on as long as it detects motion and the batteries have power. On a full charge, the batteries should last for almost 3 hours, which is equivalent to 170 one-minute activations.

7. How dark does it need to be for the light to start turning on?

a. This is determined by you. If you want the light turn on during the day and during the night, set the LUX dial towards the graphic of the Sun. If you want it to turn on only when it is very dark out, set the LUX dial towards the graphic of the Moon. You can set it anywhere between as well depending of the level of darkness you desire before the light turns on. NOTE: If you have it set for very dark, any other lights that are nearby may prevent this light from turning on.

First - let me tell you what I LOVE about this light. The settings, for me at least, as easy to use and offer a wide range of choices. It has three control setting. When you want the light on, day time to night time, your choice anywhere in that time frame. How LONG you want the light to stay on once it senses motion (stays on the through all motion, the timer starts when the motion stops) from two to four minutes. I would say 45 seconds to five minutes is a little more accurate. And Sensitivity, from high to low. I want mine to pick up cars and people, so I set it to medium. So far the rabbits and skunks are still in the dark, my daughter has a lighted path from the driveway to the porch. It is easy to install, but you may want to get a little stronger 'mollys' if you live in a windy place or are installing it on sophit instead of wood. It is durable - we dropped it ten feet during installation - it still works and didn't break! The light is bright enough in pitch dark (no solar powered light will ever match an electric light in my lifetime!!) a soft glow that doesn't blind you or attract bugs. The ability to point the two lights where ever you want makes it perfect for Driveways and walkways, or two corners of your house! The solar panel is adjustable in angles, so you can find the best location for the panel without compromising where you put the light (LONG cord between the two as well).

Second - what I don't like. This unit has a 25' sensory range. Seems like a lot, more then enough. BUT if you put it up on your 15 foot garage peek, you really have a ten foot motion sensory range on the ground.

I am using this light in a small stairwell to a garden apartment in an urban setting, and it is absolutely perfect for the job. I understand the other reviewers who say this light doesn't light up an entire driveway or deck area, but for my purpose it is absolutely fantastic. If you have a door, stairwell, or other small area, this light will be perfect. Anything more, and you will want to look elsewhere or perhaps purchase more than one. The three controls - motion sensitivity, external luminance sensitivity, and lighting duration - are nice features and all work well. Would definitely buy again.

p.s. The cord is 9 feet. I didn't see that anywhere in the product specs. So you can mount the solar collector a maximum of 9 feet away from the light.

You would think if you are buying a light for the outdoors it would be waterproof. I had the light for about 2 weeks and now the sensor is full of water and not working. I will not be getting another one.

This is my 3 rd solar powered flood light I purchased, I have two other brands.
It was smaller then I thought it would be, and it seems to temperamental (I know)

If you are trying to illuminate a small to medium area, it will work fine and be bright enough. The settings can be adjusted pretty easily, installation is pretty much a no brainer.
My issue is that I can see the lights being on in the middle of the day. I see the led's on. This does not happen with any of my other solar lights. Ofcourse I am moving around in front of the light, but somehow to me it seems that this should not be. So, if they are on a lot, it is not charged for the night.
I have tried to change the settings, but to no avail yet. I will keep on trying.
In short, it is an OK light, it will work, it is bright enought but for $20 to $30 more you will get a bigger and maybe better fixture.

We've had people break into our garage 4 times in the last 6 months so we keep upping the security. We ordered this in hopes of deterring future criminals. I'm thinking the only value this unit will provide is that we might hear the criminals laughing at it. The light is incredibly dim. It barely lights the area immediately in front of the garage doors where is hangs. You couldn't read by the light if you were sitting right under it.

Then there's the rain issue. Other reviewers have remarked that it is not waterproof. I'm not sure this is the issue with us - we do indeed have failure in the rain, but it resumes working in its usual fashion when the rain ends. It seems more like rain confuses it. If, while its raining, you stand in front of it and wave your arms wildly while jumping and turning in place, it will eventually light up. Don't ask me how I know that... When it's not raining, you have to pass very close to the sensor to set it off and if you were crafty about how you approached the garage doors, you can avoid it all together.

I feel like we got very little value out of this product. I want greater sensitivity, brighter lights, and functionality in inclement weather. I'm so glad we only bought one of these to try it out before getting more. FAIL.

This product is defintely not worth the money. I have LED flashlights that run on 2x AA batteries that are much brighter. The casing is very flimsly as well. I feel I could crush this in my hand if I squeezed hard enough. The off-white color looks like recycled 1980 computer plastic and I imagine in a month it will start to take on the pretty yellow coloring as well. Save your money and purchase a real LED Floodlight. This is one of those products that gives solar a bad name.
