Product Description

Color: White

This is one of the brightest solar-powered, motion-activated outdoor security spotlights on the market. You can reposition the heads for wide illumination, plus the LEDs never burn out or need changing. This unit ensures that you always have bright light without using one bit of electricity, because you're drawing the free power of the sun. This means low energy costs and low environmental impact with an amazing amount of light. Installation is simple, and no electrician is needed.

From the Manufacturer

Motion-Activated Dual Head Solar Security Light

Light Two Areas Simultaneously!

Light Two Areas at Once

Two heads let you cover more space and direct the light in more than one direction. Four efficient, super bright 0.5W LED lights provide 160 lumens of light.

Motion-Activated

The Motion-Activated Dual Head Solar Security Light turns on automatically when motion is detected at night for security, safety, and convenience.

Easy Installation

Use the included mounting screws and anchors to mount your light and amorphous solar panel. Installs easily with a drill and screwdriver. No electrician needed. Three 1.2V NiMH AA rechargeable batteries are included with the light.

Fully Adjustable

Three dials let you adjust multiple settings on the light:

Time: light duration after motion stops. Adjust from 10 seconds to 4 minutes.

Sens: motion-sensor range. Adjust from 10 feet to 40 feet away.

Lux: amount of darkness needed to activate. Adjust from afternoon daylight to darkest midnight.

Great for Many Locations Around Your Home

Use your MAXSA Motion-Activated Dual Head Solar Security Light to illuminate:

-Porches

-Steps

-Doorways

-Walkways

-Carports

-Sheds

You can even point the heads in different directions to cover two locations such as a path and a doorway.

Durable and Reliable Design Lasts for Years

The Motion-Activated Dual Head Solar Security Light has an extremely durable and reliable design you can count on.

The light is made of durable, heavy-duty plastic (HDPE – High Density PolyEthylene) that will last for years. HDPE can withstand high temperatures and is an extremely strong plastic, boasting high strength and high impact resistance. The light body has an Ingress Protection rating of IP44, which means it can withstand any weather in any season.

The Motion-Activated Dual Head Solar Security Light has an amorphous solar panel that can charge on both sunny and cloudy days, ensuring the light gets the power it needs every night. The solar panel charges three 1.2V NiMH rechargeable batteries that will last roughly 2-3 years.

Frequently Asked Questions

for the Motion-Activated Dual Head Solar Security Light

1) What is included with this light?

You will receive one Motion Activated Dual Head Solar Security Spotlight with three long-life 1.2V NiMH AA rechargeable batteries, an amorphous solar panel with an attached 9-foot power cable, mounting hardware, and a user guide.

2) How do I install the light and solar panel?

Use the included mounting screws and anchors to mount your light and solar panel. You may need to pre-drill holes for harder mounting surfaces.

3) What are some good locations to install this light?

This Dual Head Security Light is useful in a large number of locations. You can mount it so it lights up your porches, steps, doorways, walkways, carports, sheds, and many other locations. You can also point the heads in different directions to illuminate two different locations simultaneously.

4) What type of solar panel does the Solar Security Light use?

The Solar Security Light uses an amorphous solar panel. It is approximately 4.2 inch x 4.2 inch and generates 6.5 Volts DC and 80 milliamps of current when in direct sunlight. It can charge properly working batteries with 6-8 hours of direct sunlight. The amorphous solar panel will still charge the batteries on a cloudy or stormy day, but it will take longer. The solar panel will not function properly if it is placed in a shaded location or behind a window.

5) What is an amorphous solar panel? Are there other types?

There are two main types of solar panels that are commercially available: amorphous and crystalline. There are pros and cons to each type of solar panel. The crystalline solar panels are able to create more power per square inch than amorphous panels; however they require stronger sunlight to generate power in the first place. This means crystalline panels will perform poorly on cloudy or stormy days. Amorphous panels do not require the same strength of sunlight to generate power and are capable of producing power on cloudy or stormy days. We chose to use an amorphous panel for this product because the panel is capable of producing enough energy to keep the light running at night and increases the reliability of the light by ensuring it will still charge on days the sun is not shining. Please note that this does not include shade. Both types of solar panels will perform poorly if they are in a shaded location as the light available in the shade is too weak for either type of panel. They need direct access to the sky to function properly.

6) Can I put my amorphous solar panel anywhere?

You can place or mount the amorphous solar panel up to 9 feet away from the light, however you must always plug the solar panel into the Motion Activated Dual Head Solar Security Light to allow the batteries to charge. The panel needs to be placed outside in a sunny area and needs to face the southern sky. If it is in the shade or behind glass, it will not charge properly.

7) What if the power cord is not long enough to suit my needs?

15 foot extension cords are available from MAXSA Innovations. You can connect more than one if you need to; however we recommend a maximum of three.

8) How long will the light stay on?

The light will stay on as long as it detects motion and the battery has power. When fully charged, the battery should be able to provide up to 90 minutes of light in total before it needs to be recharged. If there is no motion, the light will turn off after 10 seconds to four minutes, depending on where you set the TIME dial.

9) What type of batteries does this solar security light use and how long do they last?

This solar security light uses three 1.2V NiMH AA rechargeable batteries. They should provide up to the maximum runtime for roughly 2-3 years, depending on use. After that you may see diminished runtimes. When it is time to replace the batteries, you can find replacements from most battery retailers or from MAXSA Innovations.

10) How long does my solar security light need to charge before I can turn it on?

We recommend you do an initial charge of three days with the solar panel connected and the light OFF to ensure a full charge. After that, you can move the power switch to the AUTO position. From that point forward, as long as the solar panel receives 6-8 hours of direct sunlight every day, the solar security light should charge enough during the day to work each night.

11) Will the light continue to work in extreme weather conditions?

The light works best between temperatures of 20°F and 120°F. If the temperature is 20°F or below, the batteries may not function as well, however the batteries will resume normal function once the temperature rises. The light is designed to withstand normal dirt and water exposure as well, but may be damaged by hurricanes and cannot be submerged in water.

12) Will the light stay on all night long?

No. This light is motion-activated only. The dual heads on the light will activate when motion is detected and stay on as long as the motion continues. The light will turn off 10 seconds to 4 minutes after the motion stops, depending on how you have set the TIME dial. On a full charge, the batteries should last for up to 90 one-minute activations.

13) How dark does it need to be for the light to start turning on?

This is determined by you. If you want the light turn on during the day and during the night, set the LUX dial towards the graphic of the Sun. If you want it to turn on only when it is very dark out, set the LUX dial towards the graphic of the Moon. You can set it anywhere between as well depending of the level of darkness you desire before the light turns on.

14) My Dual Head Solar Security Light is not turning on when I expect it to. Why is that?

Check the LUX dial. If you have the dial set towards the graphic of the moon, the light will not turn on unless the surrounding environment is completely dark. Any other lights that are nearby may prevent the light from turning on. If there are no other lights in the area, the surrounding environment may not be dark enough. To change this, slowly turn the LUX dial towards the graphic of the sun until it activates.

15) What material is used for the light body?

The light body is made with a thick, heavy-duty plastic (HDPE – High Density PolyEthylene). HDPE can withstand high temperatures and is an extremely strong plastic boasting high strength and high impact resistance. We use this in our construction to ensure a very durable light that will last for years and years.

16) What kind of LEDs does the light use?

This light uses surface mounted 0.5W LEDs that produce a cool white color with a color temperature of approximately 6500K. A color temperature of 6500K is commonly associated with a daylight color and is different from the more orange-white glow emitted by incandescent lights.

First - let me tell you what I LOVE about this light. The settings, for me at least, as easy to use and offer a wide range of choices. It has three control setting. When you want the light on, day time to night time, your choice anywhere in that time frame. How LONG you want the light to stay on once it senses motion (stays on the through all motion, the timer starts when the motion stops) from two to four minutes. I would say 45 seconds to five minutes is a little more accurate. And Sensitivity, from high to low. I want mine to pick up cars and people, so I set it to medium. So far the rabbits and skunks are still in the dark, my daughter has a lighted path from the driveway to the porch. It is easy to install, but you may want to get a little stronger 'mollys' if you live in a windy place or are installing it on sophit instead of wood. It is durable - we dropped it ten feet during installation - it still works and didn't break! The light is bright enough in pitch dark (no solar powered light will ever match an electric light in my lifetime!!) a soft glow that doesn't blind you or attract bugs. The ability to point the two lights where ever you want makes it perfect for Driveways and walkways, or two corners of your house! The solar panel is adjustable in angles, so you can find the best location for the panel without compromising where you put the light (LONG cord between the two as well).

Second - what I don't like. This unit has a 25' sensory range. Seems like a lot, more then enough. BUT if you put it up on your 15 foot garage peek, you really have a ten foot motion sensory range on the ground.

I am using this light in a small stairwell to a garden apartment in an urban setting, and it is absolutely perfect for the job. I understand the other reviewers who say this light doesn't light up an entire driveway or deck area, but for my purpose it is absolutely fantastic. If you have a door, stairwell, or other small area, this light will be perfect. Anything more, and you will want to look elsewhere or perhaps purchase more than one. The three controls - motion sensitivity, external luminance sensitivity, and lighting duration - are nice features and all work well. Would definitely buy again.

p.s. The cord is 9 feet. I didn't see that anywhere in the product specs. So you can mount the solar collector a maximum of 9 feet away from the light.

We've had people break into our garage 4 times in the last 6 months so we keep upping the security. We ordered this in hopes of deterring future criminals. I'm thinking the only value this unit will provide is that we might hear the criminals laughing at it. The light is incredibly dim. It barely lights the area immediately in front of the garage doors where is hangs. You couldn't read by the light if you were sitting right under it.

Then there's the rain issue. Other reviewers have remarked that it is not waterproof. I'm not sure this is the issue with us - we do indeed have failure in the rain, but it resumes working in its usual fashion when the rain ends. It seems more like rain confuses it. If, while its raining, you stand in front of it and wave your arms wildly while jumping and turning in place, it will eventually light up. Don't ask me how I know that... When it's not raining, you have to pass very close to the sensor to set it off and if you were crafty about how you approached the garage doors, you can avoid it all together.

I feel like we got very little value out of this product. I want greater sensitivity, brighter lights, and functionality in inclement weather. I'm so glad we only bought one of these to try it out before getting more. FAIL.

This is my 3 rd solar powered flood light I purchased, I have two other brands.
It was smaller then I thought it would be, and it seems to temperamental (I know)

If you are trying to illuminate a small to medium area, it will work fine and be bright enough. The settings can be adjusted pretty easily, installation is pretty much a no brainer.
My issue is that I can see the lights being on in the middle of the day. I see the led's on. This does not happen with any of my other solar lights. Ofcourse I am moving around in front of the light, but somehow to me it seems that this should not be. So, if they are on a lot, it is not charged for the night.
I have tried to change the settings, but to no avail yet. I will keep on trying.
In short, it is an OK light, it will work, it is bright enought but for $20 to $30 more you will get a bigger and maybe better fixture.

You would think if you are buying a light for the outdoors it would be waterproof. I had the light for about 2 weeks and now the sensor is full of water and not working. I will not be getting another one.

This product is defintely not worth the money. I have LED flashlights that run on 2x AA batteries that are much brighter. The casing is very flimsly as well. I feel I could crush this in my hand if I squeezed hard enough. The off-white color looks like recycled 1980 computer plastic and I imagine in a month it will start to take on the pretty yellow coloring as well. Save your money and purchase a real LED Floodlight. This is one of those products that gives solar a bad name.
