5.0 out of 5 stars Works for me
If you need a bright light you do not buy LED fixtures. If something on the order of a bright flashlight is all you need, this light works fine. Light is bluish like most LEDs fixtures. Has worked great in the two weeks I've had it. I like the fact that it uses a standard battery that you can buy from a variety of sources for $12-$15. For those users who say it's...

1.0 out of 5 stars Unstable in lower temperatures
I bought one unit and put it under test in various conditions and settings. It works fine in nearly all tested settings and environmental conditions, except it does not function in temperatures around 35 degrees F and lower. This is a detrimental flaw, rendering the product absolutely useless for applications where turning the light on is a must. I suppose, if one can put...

I bought one unit and put it under test in various conditions and settings. It works fine in nearly all tested settings and environmental conditions, except it does not function in temperatures around 35 degrees F and lower. This is a detrimental flaw, rendering the product absolutely useless for applications where turning the light on is a must. I suppose, if one can put up with the light not going on when necessary, then spending ninety some dollars is a bargain!!

I am a degreed electrical engineer with many years of experience in solar lighting. I know what I am talking about. This light has actually created some embarrassment for me. I wish Amazon would stop shipping it immediately and the manufacturer correct its flaws.

I'll be looking at how I can send it back and get reimbursed immediately.

1.0 out of 5 stars Works but Light Doesn't Point Where You Want, September 18, 2009
This review is from: MAXSA Innovations 40226 Solar-Powered Motion-Activated 80 LED Security Floodlight (Automotive)
This light is good compared to many so called solar security lights. Most of them are only bright enough to actually help a burglar see what they are trying to do better, but not bright enough to alert you to the fact you are being burgled. This one is brighter than most, but still quite dim compared to any conventional security light.

However, the place where this device really falls down is that you cannot direct the light anywhere but straight ahead. It has some stupid chunk of plastic just below the light that prevents you from directing the light straight down. The piece of plastic is inexplicable. No functional reason for it to be there, but it completely renders the device useless for me because I wanted to direct it straight down over a garage person door so I know when some one is at the door trying to jimmy the lock.

The light unit is also made of quite cheap and breakable plastic.

Basically its still just a science fair project quality design. Neato, but not very functional.

Light aluminates the side of our house very well. It was very easy to install. The solar power feature works well. Being able to set when light will comes on and for how long are nice features.

I bought this to light my car port area. Installed it in 15 minutes and the light is a bright white. It lights a specific area in front of the light. It doesn't light the whole area around, only where it pointed. Also be aware, it needs 3-5 days worth of charging BEFORE you can use it.

Quality of the light is inferior. Suddenly stopped working after 6 months and seller was not able to help when contacted. Money wasted. Not recommended.

I ordered and received 2 of these lights. I opened the first one and the light housing fell off of the battery compartment. I removed the lens and a retaining ring fell out. I had to disassemble the battery compartment to get enough slack in the wires to see under the LED array. The retaining ring was supposed to be holding the two pieces together (light and battery). I got the ring into the groove on the swivel neck and it held snuggly. I believe that the ring was never even installed. It was difficult to put the ring on properly and once on was very secure, I don't think that it fell off. I installed the light and opened the second unit. The same thing, the retaining ring was never installed. Both units are up and they work great, good light, good sensitivity, don't come on during the day. A super securtiy light. If you get one I hope that you are mechanically inclined as you may have to put it together.
These should have never left the factory in that condition.

1.0 out of 5 stars Maxsa 80 LED Solar-Power Outdoor Light, October 1, 2010

This review is from: MAXSA Innovations 40226 Solar-Powered Motion-Activated 80 LED Security Floodlight (Automotive)
I bought this because the specs fit my requirements perfectly. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed in it and returned it almost immediately. I agree with several of the other reviews that it's a great idea, fills a market niche, but falls short in quality, reliability and performance. In my case, the motion detector did not work so the light would not come on. I went to the manufacturer's web site, no help there. Yes, I adjusted all the sensor knobs to the minimum values trying to prompt it to come on, but it wouldn't. Also, I agree that the construction (plastic) feels cheap but let's face it - if it works and is reliable, what's that really matter. It's a security light, not a bullet-proof vest. But it didn't work out of the box. And although Amazon has the best price out there for this light, I think it was a lot of money to pay for the quality, considering the fact that mine didn't work!
