The "beauty" of a device with USB output is that you can plug it directly into your PC. The unfortunate part is that the Analog-to-Digital conversion takes place in the turntable.

The problem with this is that this particular turntable does NOT provide a volume control, and that most music is too loud for the digitizer, and is therefore clipped and distorted before being provided to the PC for recording. The only way to use this thing at all is to ignore the USB output and use the RCA jacks to go either into a traditional stereo, or into a sound card that has a volume control on the input.

I use this on Linux under Fedora 14 using the audacity software ported for that operating system. So far I have recorded about 25 albums with reasonable results. My only problem initially was the software seemed to hang after a minute or two. I adjusted the preferences to allow Ram buffering to compensate for slow hard drives to solve that problem. I am using Audacity ® 1.3.12-beta (Unicode). Usually, I record an entire side of an LP, but I could copy and paste an individual song into a NEW project's set of added tracks and save them individually after recording everything. One annoying problem that I noticed was that the automatic tone arm return quit working after about 15 albums, so I have to manually stop the turntable at the end of an album. I might add a tip on recording from vinyl. I use a cheap electrostatic furniture duster, one that you roll in your hands to electrify, to clean my records. Sometimes, I also clean stubborn specks with a dampened Q-tip. This gets rid of a lot of extraneous noise.

Got the ITUT-201 for Christmas. Recorded two LPs when the turntable locked into 78rpm mode. It did this while recording 331/3 rpm LPs. Now the turn table will not spin when I move the arm over the record, but that doesn't matter because it only spins in the 78 rpm mode if I push start the turn table. The software is difficult too! DON'T BUY THIS ONE.

My complaint about this product is the same complaint I have with all inexpensive "3-speed" turntables - they offer a 78 RPM speed, but no 78 needle. 78s require a different size needle from LPs and 45s. 78s were pressed onto shellac and the grooves were quite wide compared to plastic 'microgroove' records. Place a modern needle onto a 78 RPM record and the needle will actually dig down into the groove and start to do damage to the disc. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that is what I've gleaned from my experience with 78s.

Let me preface my review by saying I'm an ex pro club DJ. I have worked with top of the line professional turntables, mixers, and amps. How I came to purchase this was that I stumbled upon it at Big Lots for $50. Since I purchased this, I Googled it and saw it on HSN for $99, saw it on Amazon for $79 and read all the reviews. I wasn't expecting much but said what the heck anyway even though I know I could jack my mixing board into a desktop computer sound card and get my analog wax to digital. However, I just purchased a new laptop and it has no RCA inputs. This product comes with "Audacity" which is free open source software which I found not difficult to use at all. I experienced no 'clipping' or 'distortion' due to input too loud by adjusting the input volume on the software. OK, now to the last part... how was the fidelity? I converted a few 12" singles and LP's from my spinning days that I've had since the 1970's, 80's etc. Then listened to the MP3's on headphones on my iPod, on my 250 watt amp and speakers and in short, sounded like the record was playin on my Technics DJ turntables. The only con is that the turntable is not made with the highest quality materials but it does perform. One last thing ... get the latest Audacity software for free anywhere on the Net.

The people saying it is difficult to separate tracks or things like that, it is an issue with a software called Audacity. I actually have no clue why IT included it, seeing as (I am fairly sure) they do not own it.

I am running this on my macbook pro. It works just fine. I like that I get all the high and lows not found on manufactured cd's. They try to keep sound at levels they think listeners are more likely to want. Audiophiles
understand this, which is why more are going back to vinyl.

I don't know, maybe i miss the occasional hiss and pop, but then again this is the format I grew up with. Brings
back happy memories.

I would recommend this player versus high end $200 dollars and such.
