Countess Olenska returns from Europe to the friendly world of strict social conventions of New York's high society at the end of the last century. This is the story of a great passion but also of the conflict between two worlds: That of the old North American patrician families and that of the newly rich who, by the end of the novel, have made the customs and the spirits their own. Martin Scorsese directed a beautiful movie based on The Age of Innocence, starring Michelle Pfeiffer, as Countess Olenska, Daniel Day-Lewis and Winona Ryder.
