Inov8 Roclite 315 Trail Shoes. This is an Off-Road multi activity shoe providing high levels of comfort, upper support and grip. The medium profile, cushioned midsole provides excellent under foot comfort while the fascia band aids propulsion. Meta-Flex - this boot incorporates a meta-flex groove which is anatomically aligned in front of the metatarsal heads to provide a natural fore foot flex and protection whilst running. Met Cradle - The upper webbing support in this boot is anatomically positioned to cradle the fore foot behind the metatarsal heads and provide a secure foot hold whilst running. Meta-Shank - New 5 finger meta-shank aligns with each individual metatarsal for greater flexibility when contouring while retaining underfoot impact protection. A softer compound is used on performance product while a firmer compound is used on the endurance product. Fascia Band - This band is a replication of the plantar fascia ligament to increase propulsion efficiency and reduce fatigue in the foot. Mid Level Cushioning - Usually used for training. Endurance Rubber Compound - This has been formulated for an optimal balance on wear and mixed terrain grip. Endurance Last - Generous fitting last offering a comfortable fit. This a light good traction trail shoe-Inov-8 Roclite 315 Trail Running shoe.
These shoes feel pretty comfortable; but I put in the Sof Sole cushion inserts which have more cushion in the heel as well as in the entire foot bed compared with the inserts that come with the shoe which were evenly thin.

The traction is excellent on dirt, gravel and asphalt. The uppers sit low on the back of my heel; but the heel was securely in place. I had plenty of toe space. I ordered a half size up from my normal shoe size and they fit great. They lace up easy. The toe guard is helpful and protects the toes well.

With the inserts in these shoes the walk was comfortable on asphalt as well as off road. I like them so far. My feet did not get too hot; but breathed well even while wearing extra cushioned socks by Defeet (Cush.)

I wore thinner socks today Defeet's Aireator and the shoes were even more comfortable. I was surprised that I did not miss the cushioning of the thicker sock. The shoes are easier to get on and off than my previous Glycerin 8 by Brooks which has a higher heel that you step into. So these shoes come off easier than I am used to which is nice. They also are easier to put on as a result of the low uppers where you put your foot inside. The mesh is fine enough that my dog has not bit into it like happened with the looser mesh of the Glycerin 8 uppers. The toe has reflective stripes on each shoe. These shoes are comfortable with the Sof Sol inserts.

I like these shoes but January 16, 2011
I like the design of these shoes (minimalist with good traction) but two of the lugs on the heel broke off. This is a significant failing.

Best Trail Shoe I Used February 28, 2012

I started running with minimal shoes about three years ago. My old shoe was the NB Minimus trail and while a great shoe it just didnt have the protection over rocks. I ordered the Inov 8 Rocklite 315 hoping for that extra protection from rocks, expecting the shoe to weigh a ton. To my surprise, while heavier than the NB the 315 is a shoe you that is surprisingly light and definitely gave me the protection I needed. I've ordered a second pair as a back up but unless they are wet probably wont need it for years. Look at reviews of this shoe if you still have any doubt and you will see how/why Inov has taken a decisive lead in the running shoe market.
