Surprisingly Durable, December 30, 2011
This review is from: Inov-8 Men's flyroc 310 Trail Running Shoe (Apparel)
I've been wearing Inov8's shoes for six years now. I bought my current pair of flyroc 310s roughly a year ago. I have used them as a day-to-day sneaker, for hiking, and canyoneering--I have certainly put several hundred miles on them. As I type this the soles have not come unglued, though there are plenty of punctures. Lugs appear to be aging evenly. This is a major improvement over my previous Inov8 models.
As noted by several other reviews, Inov8 shoes are great for people with narrow heels and a wide forefoot. Flyroc 310s are no exception. The shoe is adequately adjustable, and a proper fit is easy for me to attain (I often don't bother and treat them like slippers). Traction is very good, especially in scree, sandy rock, and other rubble-type conditions. Passable in mud. For what it's worth, the wide mesh and generous rand make these are great water shoes. The tread is a little too high for my tastes when scampering across rock slopes, but this a minor complaint.
One temporary but major problem: heel pain. My first few attempts to wear these on simple day hikes resulted in surprisingly nasty pain where the plastic heel cup pressed against my foot. Bad enough, in fact, that I walked a couple miles in my socks (this is in the desert, mind you: rocks, cactus, scorpions, etc.) to get back to the car. This was after slapping moleskin patches on. The problem stopped after molding the heels a bit (and beating them with a rock). Typical of every pair of Inov8s I have owned the interior heel fabric fell apart after a month or two of use. No problem for me: just paste on more moleskin.
I would not normally bother with a shoe review, but I make exception for Inov8 shoes because I believe that my mechanical health and enjoyment of the outdoors have benefited from wearing them. Will they do the same for you? No idea. When I started wearing Inov8s there was (to my knowledge) very little out there in the way of light weight and somewhat minimal trail shoes. Now there are dozens of brands, none of which I can speak to. What I do know is that my bad knees had gotten to be a real issue, and I wasn't getting into the boonies as much as I wanted to. Since switching to these shoes, this aspect of my life has been improved significantly. The 310s are not perfect, but they are very, very good.

Tough Mudder Approved!, December 1, 2011
This review is from: Inov-8 Men's flyroc 310 Trail Running Shoe (Apparel)
Bought these in preparation for the 2011 Tri-State Tough Mudder in NJ. Broke them in on some local trails and they fit great. On the day of the mudder, they were INVALUABLE. The deep treads on the bottom easily allowed me to navigate the muddiest of obstacles without slipping, the shoes provided great support to my feet while running, and are properly ventilated to allow water to drain out from some of the wetter obstacles. Even better: I cleaned them up and still use them for trail running and hope to get one more TM out of them in April. Very durable construction.
Definitely recommend for trail running/Tough Mudder/Warrior Dash/Spartan Run activities. Would buy again.

These shoe Roc and almost make you Fly, November 30, 2011
This review is from: Inov-8 Men's flyroc 310 Trail Running Shoe (Apparel)
Seriously, these are THE best trail shoe I have EVER worn (for my feet) narrow heel, spacious toe area, great lace configuration, and sticky rubber, ALMOST like rock climbing shoes, great tread pattern (except in damp loamy soil it collects between the pattern), I even use them as approach shoes in some real gnarly areas. And to boot I've won age class trail races in these bad boys. But my one caveat is try them BEFORE you order on line their numeric sizing doesn't seem right, in most shoes I wear 10.5-11 in these 11.5, now go out and run and stop reading reviews.
