Great All-Around Sneaker, August 19, 2009
This review is from: Inov-8 Unisex F-Lite 301PK Trail Running Shoe (Apparel)
Inov8 is a great shoe company that appears to be little-known outside the UK. I picked up a pair of trail runners at REI on a whim and was so impressed by the fit and light weight, I wanted to try a regular pair of sneakers.
The F-Lite 301PK appears to be marketed towards folks that like to run and jump off of tall or not-so-tall buildings and objects. Obviously, this isn't the biggest market. That said, as everyday sneakers, these things are brilliant.
They are very lightweight (the 301 in the name appears to stand for the weight in grams), yet they are better padded in the heel and ball of the foot than trainers that weigh twice as much. The fit is really good in all dimensions, and there are simply no points that pinch, bunch, poke, or push anywhere on the foot. Being low-topped, there isn't much ankle support at all, but the mid-foot support is quite good. Breathability is good, but with that comes a total lack of waterpoofing, be warned.
Grip, if it matters, seems to be really, really good in the dry and really, really awful in the wet. On a wet/greasy kitchen floor, these are ice skates.
Looks are suprisingly restrained, and though you won't be winning any fashion awards, they are miles better than most sneakers that feature 12 neon colours and designs that look like the only goal is to be as complex as possible. Wear these with a nice pair of jeans and you might even call them stylish.
After 3 months of near-daily use, they're holding up well and appear to be wearing quite a great deal less than I expected with the super-soft soles. Note, however, that said soles seem to discolour pretty quickly to something brown-ish, and that the white lower trim is pretty scuff-able, too.
In all, the perfect fit/comfort and the sure grip combined with low-key styling make these a serious winner.

Size Matters, June 16, 2009
I recently purchased the Inov-8 Unisex F-Lite 301PK Trail Running Shoe in a men's size 9, to be my parkour shoes. First off, let me tell you that being a british company Inov-8 doesn't understand US sizing, be certain to order yours a half size larger than what you usually wear. Second, if you're going to be using these as parkour shoes take the time to wear-in the soles, when you first get them the pads on the soles are dimpled like a rubber basketball and you'll need to wear the pads to bald before being able to do wall-runs effectively. Now onto the good stuff! They are extremely light weight and the cushioning on them is wonderful, the mesh-upper really lets your foot breathe so you don't get "Funk-Toe." The clear rubber of the sole is great for urban parkour where you don't want to leave rubber skids on public surfaces, they don't have the best grip in the world, but unlike the K-Swiss Ariake they don't become ice-skates if they get slightly damp. If you're looking for a good indoor/outdoor cross-trainer that won't leave marks these are definitely for you, just be sure to go a little bigger on size.
