4.0 out of 5 stars lightweight and simple
This is one of the best designs I've found on the market for a lightweight LED light. However, it is still in need of improvements. The light has various settings, which are controlled by a microchip. Push the button once for high intensity, twice for low intensity, and 3 times for strobe mode. The high intensity setting will stay on for 3 minutes and then...

Lightweight, surprisingly bright for their size and really handy, thse lights would be a great buy if they didn't suffer from one fatal flaw: their switches appear to be very poorly designed or constructed.

I purchaced three of these for stocking stuffers in addition to one for myself. One has already died due to a stuck 'on' switch. Mine seems to turn on if it's breathed on (VERY sensitive switch). So we're batting .500 with less than one month's use.

As such, I cannot recommend these minilights.

This is one of the best designs I've found on the market for a lightweight LED light. However, it is still in need of improvements. The light has various settings, which are controlled by a microchip. Push the button once for high intensity, twice for low intensity, and 3 times for strobe mode. The high intensity setting will stay on for 3 minutes and then automatically switch to low. The low intensity and strobe settings will stay on as long as they have battery power. A problem with this on/off setting is that the light tends to turn itself by bumping up against things, particularly if you carry it in your pocket. To remedy this you can switch the light to work in a push-button mode, but there is no quick way to switch between the on/off and push-button modes. This means that you have to choose between the hands-free convenience of the on/off mode, or the push-button mode where you won't accidentally run down your batteries. It is easy to open the light and install new batteries if need be. It takes two flat batteries. The light is not waterproof and so if it gets wet the microchip that controls the light settings could be damaged. In summary, it is a great light, but could use a simple O-ring seal to make it waterproof and a feature to prevent the light from turning on by itself when in the on/off mode. With these improvements it would become a standard item for every survival kit and outdoor adventure, not to mention everyday use.

3.0 out of 5 stars Light will turn off automatically after 10 or 15 minutes, December 1, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Inova CB-R Translucent Microlight, Night Vision Red LED and Grip (Tools & Home Improvement)
This light is bright and long lasting BUT it will automatically turn off after 10 or 15 minutes if you leave it on. Perhaps this is a safety feature to save battery and most people won't care, but I used this as part of a Halloween costume and it was annoying to have to keep turning it back on every 15 minutes. Other than that, good light.

Also, you can get these at almost any FRY's for 7 bucks if you want to avoid shipping costs. I found that out after I bought one on Amazon and then went to Fry's for some other stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the submarine environment, June 28, 2008

I serve on a submarine in the Navy. These things are great, especially at periscope depth when the lights are dimmed so the officer of the deck doesn't get blinded when he uses the periscope. When we do that red lights are the only thing authorized. This thing clips right on the collar button hole on the Navy coveralls, which is very convenient!

It works as expected. The last one I bought didn't have a very sturdy switch; it warped over time. I'll see how this one goes.

I keep this on my keyring for times when I just need a little bit of light (like finding the key hole when i forget to leave the porch light on). I love it. Very convenient and perfectly bright.

5.0 out of 5 stars love these leds, August 19, 2010
This review is from: Inova CB-R Translucent Microlight, Night Vision Red LED and Grip (Tools & Home Improvement)
i've been using these for about 4 years now and still think they're one of the best overall on the market. i say this because i've spent well over $400 on random leds and other lights fiber optic and what not. i use them mostly for poi the weight of 2 or 3 seems well balanced. the colors are true and intense and the battery lasts about as long as they boast at 15 hours. the 3 way setting makes for great depth during shows between hi, low, and strobe. hi is a constant and bright stream while the low gives a dot effect during shows. yes there is a signal mode i only use this for my key chain simply push and hold.

they will crack open if hit together while using for poi...simple fix 2 wraps or electrical tape use 3m or you'll end up with a sticky mess.
they will ocasionally turn on/off when hitting or bumping something but with a battery life of 15 hrs does it really matter that much? plus when the batteries start running low you can easily tell from less intense light. to keep a spare pack takes up virtually no room if you're that worried about it.
