About the Author

Hello, my name is Tom McHale. I'm the creator and primary author of the Insanely Practical Guides series of how-to books. You can find them all right here on Amazon and more information about what's in them at www.insanelypracticalguides.com. I help explain complicated things to people in a fun and easy-to-understand way. I believe that life is a bowl of fruit loops and that things don't have to be so complicated, although I suppose excessive techno-jargon keeps lots of well-intentioned lawyers in business. There's no need to feel ignorant or shy when you're embarking on something new. We'll help you feel comfortable and acclimated in no time at all. If you want to learn about the world of guns, shooting and the American way, check out some of my books. Have a laugh or two. Life is too short for boring books. I also produce a website, MyGunCulture.com that is a half-cocked but right on target look at the world of shooting and all things related. If you want to learn with a laugh about guns, shooting products, personal defense, competition, industry news and the occasional Second Amendment issue, visit me there!

This book is definitely for the person entertaining the thought of loading your own. If you are not considering of loading your own ammunition, the book adds meat to the Basic Pistol Course where the instructor spends 5 minutes talking about ammunition. Food for the mind.

I have found basic reloading information on the Internet of Things, but this books presents it in a simple yet thorough manner. McHale's humor and practical approach were added bonuses. From the book, walked away with a sense of "I can do this!"

McHale took the unusual yet sensible approach reloading equipment and supplies. He divides "the stuff" into the categories of essentials, making life easier, advanced and hooked.

The was on thing which would have made this a five star review--a section on how to read load tables. I have yet to see this in anything I have read but it is such an important part of discussing safety of loading pressures.

I'm new to reloading. I learned hands on from someone who has done it for years. But before I started learning I wanted to atleast have a foundation to work with. So I read this book along with the Hornady Loading Manual. This book was great! All of the questions that I was trying to look up online, were right there. I couldn't find strait answers to general questions on forums, so was a little frustrated. I read this book, and found out that it had about everything I needed to know when I started loading. I felt comfortable when I started and my teacher was impressed with my knowledge. I loaded my first 50 rounds and am very happy.

I love this book. It was well written, very informative, had everything I needed with some extras.

I have reloaded ammo before, and bought this book when I was considering getting back into the hobby. I have much more limited space and a smaller budget, so I have to plan my new setup more carefully.

This book exceeded my expectations by a wide margin. Fun to read, but filled with very practical advice. Even experienced reloaders will likely learn a thing or two.

Unlike reloading manuals written by one company, the author doesn't push any particular brand of equipment or type of setup. He does an excellent job of explaining the basics you need to get started, and what extras you might or might not want to add later on. He actually encourages starting out with inexpensively, and points out that basic hand tools can work just as well, albeit more slowly, than fancy electric tools.

This book would definitely be my first choice to recommend to anyone interested in Reloading.

This was a good book for a beginner. There was enough information to entice a beginning reloader to start and look further into the hobby/sport/etc. It was a little light on the specifics of handloading. Mr. McHale did a good job about the need for safety and precision. This is not for the sloppy or undisciplined. But can be a rewarding and economical way to enjoy more shooting and hunting.

Good book. Reaffirmed much of what I thought (right and wrong) was correct on the internet. I'm reloading high end 308 loads for long distance and various 300 blackout loads made from 223 and 556 brass. Learned lots of new stuff too. Worth the money.
After reading the book Im already buying some new tools… so.. yes, make sure you just buy the right setup from the start, even if your running a single stage press. Reloading can be dangerous and its really not for those in a hurry. So far Im enjoying it and plan on doing some some handgun loads for 357 and 10mm in the near future. Certain calibers will save you lots of money in the long run.

Excellent book. Step by step on choosing equipment and how to use it. Best "how to" book on reloading. I've attended three seminars on reloading and I still picked up some new valuable information. Best way to learn would be to attend a seminar (or have a friend help you) AND have this book. If I were going to reload the first time without help - this would be the book I would want to have. You'll also need a regular reloading book with the recipes for powder, bullets, etc. as this is strictly "how to" and what equipment should I choose.

There are a lot of practical tips that will help someone new to reloading.
In addition a lot of the jargon related to reloading are explained.
I also liked that specific tools were identified by the manufacture and where you can get them.
Although the book is written with a sense of humor, when it comes to topics that need your attention
for safety reasons, the tone becomes very serious.

I recommend this book to anyone just starting out!

Would highly recommend this book to anyone interested in unloading. The author is very knowledgeable. The information he gives is easily understood and inciting. He parallels every other reloading manual and explains the process in down to earth language.
