Insanity...that pretty much sums it up!,

This review is from: Insanity (Audio CD)
Darkane are the true masters of thrash. It's too bad they got overlooked in the Swedish popularity surge a few years back. If they had come out at any other time they would be at the top of the underground metal scene. Unfortunately that didn't happen and now they're forced to dwell in obscurity. Enough of my b*tching though, and on to the review. Insanity is the perfect title for this album. The weird layout of the lyrics, the distorted vocals and the eccelectic (god I butchered that word!) sound of the album will make it seem like your going insane. All makes for a damn heavy and strange experience. Like what would happen if you threw a handful of extreme acts like At The Gates, Slayer and old Metallica together then amped up the strangeness by about 1000. I don't have Rusted Angel or Expanding Senses yet but from what I hear they might even be better than this. If your a fan of thrash this is a must have, it beats the f*ck out of Lamb of God that's for sure!

Controlled Chaos,
By A Dissident (Minneapolis, Minnesota United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Insanity (Audio CD)
On first listen, Darkane's Insanity is a thrashing, seething and chaotic metal beast. Imagine careening down a mountainside in a cement truck with the certain violent end waiting for you at the bottom. Next to you in the driver's seat is a recently escaped mental patient foaming at the mouth--all the while holding a fist raised with two fingers aloft in the metal salute. A total mess waiting to happen, right? Absolutely not!! Upon the 3rd or 4th listen, the chaotic amalgam that is Darkane starts to take shape and form. The mental patient appears to be in more control than one believed. For every one of Peter Wildoer's manic beats, there is a guitar riff or melody provided by Malmstrom and Ideberg that restrains(albeit only marginally)the maelstrom. Check out the sick rythms of Impure Perfection, for example. The unique vocal morphing of Andreas Sydow also sets Darkane apart from the increasingly overcrowded and stale death metal genre. His delivery fits the schizophrenic nature of the music perfectly. Darkane's synthetic blend of Gothenburg influenced melodic death and industrial mayhem is a challenging listen. The influence of the more robotic and asceptic Meshuggah is apparent throughout this release. It will appeal to fans of both extreme death as well as Iron Maiden influenced thrash/death. Climb into the cab of the cement truck and instruct the pilot: "DRIVE ON. YOUR INSANITY WILL SAVE ME!!"

Get Ready For Pure 100% Evil Swedish Brilliance,
By "soilworker" (usa) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Insanity (Audio CD)
Welcome to the dark and insane world of Darkane. Full of maniac drumming, lightning riffing, swedish melodies, and vocals straight from hell. These guys came out with a debut that few bands could even dream of making throughout their pathetic career. Everything on that cd is now intensified and branched out even further. Im not sure if you are ready for music of this volume and INSANITY, which to me is the perfect title for this amazing collection. Its faster, louder, and a hell of a lot scarier. Get ready for the ride of your life! Hold on TIGHT!
