4.0 out of 5 stars It's no Lily Bennett mystery, but still good!

I must say that I was disappointed when I first learned that Kellogg's newest book, "Instatiable" would not be another in the Marshall Lily Bennett series; I debated for quite a while about whether or not I would read it, and obviously I gave in.

There are some similarities in this new book, for instance, the focus on the lifestyles of the rich, both the nice guys and the bad. The characters are all quite colorful and interesting. The two main characters, Jackie and Nigel, are not your normal heroine and hero, but they are still very likeable.

The plot is pretty interesting, it's nice to have a little peek into the art world after life at Bennett's Fort, and I found that all in all, it was an addictive and very enjoyable read.

It will be interesting see see if Kellogg decides (and I wonder how she would do this) to make this into a series as well.

So, if you are an avid fan, definitely give it a chance, and if you are a new Kellogg reader, please check out her other books!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Wild Read, April 12, 2001

What a ride of a read! INSATIABLE was quite a reading change from one of my favorite mystery series, the Lilly Bennett series and the author Marne Davis Kellogg. Ms. Kellogg had written an entertaining novel with all the quirks of mystery, suspense, romance, exoctic locales, and a wide range of characters. How could anyone not laugh with Nigel as he very seriously studies his medical journal for symptoms of his latest "fatal disease". His devotion to Madam and the situations they join or face leads to a breathless finale. I thought I had figured out the ending but mercy was I wrong - and a little bit right! Try this title, I believe you will enjoy the story. This loyal Lilly Bennett fan applauds Ms. Kellogg for a writing job well done. I await the next installment in her writing career.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another masterpiece from Kellogg, January 5, 2002

This review is from: Insatiable (Mass Market Paperback)
Ms. Kellogg wows her readers again with her latest. As a long-time fan of her Lily Bennett series, Insatiable was quite a change. But, Kellogg pulled it off very well--like all her other books, it reads quickly and keeps your attention throughout. Kellogg has an unusual knack for writing novels about the rich that are classy and elegant--not gaudy and overbearingly romantic. I look forward to her next bestseller!

I am a fan of the Lilly Bennett series, but I enjoyed this book much, much more. A wild ride, with laugh out loud funny scenes, and stirring emotions from start to finish.

Highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars Insatiable....for more Marne Davis Kellogg!, February 25, 2001
This review is from: Insatiable (Hardcover)
I just finished reading INSATIABLE and thought it was very well written. I am a fan of humorous, descriptive writing, and if a book makes me laugh hard enough to wake my husband, then it's GREAT! One of the funniest parts is when Nigel describes the Boxing Day dinner that Madam prepares for her servants. You've got to read this book!

I can't wait until the next book comes out, whether it's Lily Bennett or some other great offering.

3.0 out of 5 stars Glitz and murder in the artistic set, February 17, 2001
This review is from: Insatiable (Hardcover)
Nigel Weatherby-Smythe serves as butler to Jacqueline du Fidelio, a famous portrait artist with a habit of spending even more than she makes. Jacqueline is in trouble with the IRS who ask her to do some spying for them--and lands both herself and Nigel in trouble.

INSATIABLE takes the reader into the glitz world of the rich and famous. Skiing in Aspen, yachting across the Atlantic, trecking in Nepal, and eating succi in New York art galleries. Seen from Nigel's point of view, the world is a strange place that centers around him and 'Madam.' His goal is to line Jacqueline up with a man rich enough to take care of their financial disasters, yet each man Jacqueline finds is even more of a disaster.

Nigel and Jacqueline walk through a world of intrigue, art theft, and murder yet Nigel continues to believe everything centers around himself.

Nigel is an interesting character. Jacqueline is certainly intriguing although somewhat distanced by Nigel's myopic worldview. All of the other characters are basically caricatures with simple cause and effect motivations.

INSATIABLE is an enjoyable enough novel but lacks the punch to make it great.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quirky and fun., April 21, 2010
This review is from: Insatiable (Mass Market Paperback)
This mystery introduces the reader to a world of money and privilege. The characters are memorable because they aren't everyday people that struggle. Interesting read.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing..., March 8, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Insatiable (Mass Market Paperback)
This book was disappointing overall, although I enjoyed much of the dialogue. I found the two main characters pretty sleazy and ended the book thinking both of them were capable of just about anything bad! However, I'll continue to read and enjoy Ms. Kellogg's Kick Keswick series - those are great!
