These Creature Peepers are wonderful!! Our 4-year-old just loves his! Before we had this, he was always bringing his newly-found "friends" into the house. Yuck!! Since buying the Creature Peeper, he still brings his 6 and 8-legged "friends" into the house- but now I am much calmer about it! He loves to catch all sorts of bugs and study them through the magnifying scopes in the top and bottom of this toy. Great fun for curious children!!

I got this along with a bug book because my boys, 4 and 5, have started expressing a lot of interest.

What's to say? The Peeper does a great job of displaying captured critter magnified from both above and below.

My minor complaint would be that the top piece doesn't fit as snugly as I would like. I added some tape around the edge to make the top less likely to come off when inconvenient.

Overall a great toy and has been holding up well so far. Approx 2 months.

I purchased this product for my 4 year old and he was thrilled when it arrived, we went bug hunting almost right away. My only complaint is that the receptacle detaches very easily so my clumsy 4 year old would release the bug without examining it yet...he'll learn though. Overall we're happy with it.

I got the creature peeper, along with a lady bug house, and a bug book for my 3 year old niece who apparently hates dirt but looovveeessss bugs- go figure : )! Well my sister was getting fed up with her bringing creepy crawlies into the house and this was a good solution. She also takes her ladybugs out of their house and can look at them closely and carry them around with her everywhere, which you know how much the little ones like to carry their things around. My sister and niece love it and she said it is quite durable. It's been pulled on, dropped, you name it and is still in the condition it was received in! Really great, educational product without the yuck factor!

The lid doesn't secure to the unit so it is only suitable for adult use. Children do not have the coordination to keep the unit upright while trying to view the unit from the side. Unfortunately, the lid that contains the bug falls off unless the unit is held perfectly level. This is not good if you are trying to teach a child to confront their bug fears.

This product was purchased in conjunction with the laser vaccum gun for collecting bugs for a boy turning 6. This is a great magnifier as it shows the top and bottom of the bug with a mirror below the bug, but beware that the cone that rests on top does not screw on and you just have to keep it upright on a flat surface to keep it in place so your critter doesn't escape! Keep this toy outside if bugs give you the creeps! Otherwise great toy. Plastic could crack if dropped on cement.

Ok..so while I would definatly buy a "bug collector", I would not buy this again. The problem is that the plastic cone at the top of the unit does not screw to the base of the unit. This means that
a) when you 'parent' collect a bug. They start looking at it and then the lid comes off and the bug flies away.
b) when the child collects a bug and brings it in the house, the lid comes off and you've got a ladybug inside the house
c) when the lid comes off and you fail to see it on the garage floor because it's clear, you step on it...and yep...now the whole thing goes in the trash

And yes...A, B and C happpened to us. I would say that this sort of thing is great, but they need to add a locking mechanism between the top cone and the base of the unit.

Fustrated that others rated this unit so highly as it was the reason I had previously purchased it.

Bought this for my granddaughter who is five. She has had a wonderful time inspecting a multitude of unsuspecting creepy-crawlers. Her mother, my daughter, does supervise to make sure nothing that bites or stings is picked up for inspection.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my son, and was very disappointed when he opened it. The lid, where you put the bug inside, does not fit on securely - there is no mechanism to screw or snap it on...it just sits on top. My 3 year old tips the viewer to look through the magnifier, and so the top falls off. This is NOT acceptable when there is a live bug inside. They could have easily just added some threading so that the top screws on.
That one detail makes this product completely disfunctional. I would not recommend to others.

This is easily the best toy my three-year old has owned. She uses it not just to look at bugs (hard to find in the New England winter!), but she also uses it to peek at leaves, pebbles and M&M's! The Creature Peeper comes with a ugly brown toy grasshopper, which immediately caught my kid's fancy! She calls him Slimy, feeds him all kinds of stuff and pretends to watch it through the magnifying glass. She is OBSESSED with this thing, which is not bad at all! I think it has great educational value because she is now following nature with greater interest.

The toy itself is very durable and easy to clean. I'm thinking of getting one each time I have to go to a birthday party!

Don't think twice, buy it!
