Book Description

Ella Tipton is a survivor. In the wake of an attack that left her nearly dead, she’s spent each day since reclaiming her life and holding on to her hard-won lessons. While that doesn’t include romance, it doesn’t mean she has to stop sneaking looks at Mister Tall, Dark, and Tattooed…

Security professional Andrew Copeland is no stranger to women, but the nervous flush he gets every time he talks to Ella is different from anything he’s known before. Determined to help her—and to get close—he offers her hands-on training in self-defense.

The prospect of being able to touch him and regain her sense of security is more than Ella can resist. Soon Cope reignites something deep inside her—something that could turn them both inside out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Inside Out November 2, 2010
Ella Tipton, manager of a small café owned by Erin from the previous Brown Sibling books, has been through hell and back. She was attacked and nearly killed by her ex-husband and has spent the last several years rebuilding her life and getting back on her feet. She's a tough lady but still suffers from the fallout of the attack now and then. Although romance is not on the menu she has a crush on Andrew Copeland, longtime friend to the Brown family. He stops by the café often and aside from some light flirting their friendship is pretty casual. But that doesn't stop Ella from fantasizing now and then.

Andrew Copeland has had his share of women. They've come and gone through the years but he's had a special attraction to Ella for a long time. But the time has just never been right to make a move. Ella has been through a lot of personal trauma and so he's kept his distance romantically, only offering friendship and support when he can. He's watched her grow and he knows she's something special. When he offers to teach her some self defense techniques Ella accepts. Spending time getting physical sends their mutual attraction into overdrive and bumps their relationship up to a whole new level.

Although neither Cope (Andrew) or Ella is related to the Browns they are both are still considered family and treated with the love and care the Browns are known for. Cope is related to the family by marriage, his brother Ben is married to Erin Brown. Ella is a long-time friend to Erin and is the manager of her café. While Ella and Cope share a mutual attraction to each other they are both a little unsure of how or if their relationship should move forward.

2.0 out of 5 stars big bunch of meh December 21, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition
Eh. I liked the other two Brown siblings books so much more. This was just kinda...well boring. The book seemed to be a series of conversations between shifting characters about how great Ella and Cope would be/are together. The parts that sparked my interest the most was the disapproving family drama that still surrounded Erin/Todd and Ben's unconventional relationship.

So of course because I wasn't totally engaged, I obsessed over the fact that the three female friends all had names that began with the letter 'E' -- Ella, Erin and Elise. So it was confusing sometimes. And if I recall they all had been victims of domestic abuse. So yeah, overkill.

I dunno, I was just very disappointed. Not a keeper

Let me first say that I ADORE Lauren Dane. When one of her books comes out, I always run right to the bookstore to get it. When this one was released a week earlier than expected at Borders, I was ecstatic! I have loved every one of the books in this series. This one however, fell a little flat for me. I am still reading it and I bought it over 2 weeks ago. Usually I'm done with one of her books in 24 hrs or less. The characters are all wonderful; a real family, but I felt as though something was going to happen and it never did. It just kept going on and on... Am I the only one that was a tad annoyed with Ella? I really loved her before this book, but now, not so much. Cope is amazing. A real man. I don't know, I just felt something was missing... I will say that I am waiting anxiously for Adrian's story. I wonder... Adrian and Raven...?? Can't wait!

Four years ago Ella's abusive boyfriend Bill tried to kill her and left scars on her legs. He went to jail. Since then Ella has been slowly healing psychologically. Cope has always been a ladies man - sleeping with lots of women, never wanting to settle down. Cope and Ella have admired each other from afar but never acted on it. This back story is briefly told to us, not shown. The story now begins with their flirting. For some reason Cope decides to step up the flirting and offers to give her some hands-on training in self-defense.

Ella and Cope are close to several people, their group of friends. Erin is pregnant and has some complications with the pregnancy. Erin has two husbands - Ben and Todd - a marriage of three. Ben's father cannot accept Ben loving a man which causes some conflict during this story. Cope is not open with his parents, and they have no idea that he is doing a great job at remodeling his house. Elise and Brody are part of this group of friends. They are getting married in two months, so the story includes preparations and conversations about the coming wedding.

There was no story. The entire book consisted of conversations among the people described above. The major conflicts were "I'm worried, will my baby be ok?" or "I'm sad because my dad said this." Nothing interesting happened. I was bored throughout. All the characters were nice people except the one dad. So there were no interesting personality conflicts which might have helped.

Friends repeatedly tell Ella that Cope really likes her. They've never seen him look at another women the way he looks at her. Cope sends something romantic to Ella. She sends something romantic back.

Cope & Ella had doubts, but lots of loving family & friends. Cope wasn't sure, Ella had a lot of buttons that were easily pushed. They did figure it out.

This entire series is wonderful. I have ordered the whole series as a gift for my sister-in-law for Christmas. If you like paranormal, her Cascadia Wolfs is also very good.

More About the Author

The story goes like this - While on pregnancy bed rest, Lauren Dane had plenty of down time so her husband took her comments about "giving that writing thing a serious go" to heart and brought home a secondhand laptop. She wrote her first book on it before it gave up the ghost. Even better, she sold that book and never looked back.

Today Lauren is a New York Times bestselling author of over fifty novels and novellas across several genres.
