I have read many books on leadership. However, many times the books I have read have focused on systems, management, etc., not taking into account the complex (and powerful!) system of our emotions. Josh Freedman and Massimimiliano Ghini, MBA integrate much of the new neuroscience with a comprehensive look and analysis of how people can make successful change by honoring the people involved, integrating emotional intelligence skills, in conjunction with keen business sense. There is so much to offer in this book, that I will be rereading to glean all of the gems! This is a must read for those who are looking for ways to change, starting from the inside! I heartily recommend!

At the moment I am helping improve climate where I work. This happens to be the perfect time for me to receive this guide. I am really excited and much more hopeful. I believe this book is a step by step guide to help me through the process. I really like the "Operational Manual" part with each chapter. I highly recommend this book for people who are going through change or trying to help bring about change.

I’m a project manager, I lead change all the time -- new system, new method, new tools, etc. I’ve been trained in the technical side of this up the ying yang, but it’s painfully obvious that the real challenge in change is people. I’m so glad I got this book! I started using the ideas in a project, and, surprise! It didn’t exactly work -- but it worked SO much better. That’s not a criticism, by the way. One of the key points of the book is you need to jump in and do it, then refine, and that’s what I’m doing. Emotional intelligence in action, right on.

This book gets a lot right. I was trained in the military that in change we need to handle VUCA: Volatility. Uncertainty. Complexity. Ambiguity. Fancy way of saying “SNAFU.” It’s not enough to make a plan, you MUST be willing and able to adapt, to be changeable, not just change once. I like it that these guys have worked with corporate

I work in an organization that flat out refuses to change. I find myself often frustrated by the lack of flexibility and vision that exists in most of the organization. When I feel that way, I pick up this book and read another chapter and I get a renewed energy. Josh speaks in such a clear and thoughtful way that I can relate to everything he says. This book helps me to realize that I can make a difference by applying my own intrinsic values to complicated or difficult situations. I can take control by engaging my EQ tools and lead by example to show others that change is possible and everyone will still be all right. The Know Yourself, Choose Yourself, Give Yourself model is the best method I have found for effectively managing both myself and helping my employees. Whether we like it or not, emotions run our lives so we need ot learn to control them and use them for our benefit. Change is the most difficult time for most people, when emotions get out of control and this book helps bring me back to perspective and give me the tools I need to be an effective leader in difficult, changing, emotional times.

Oh, my stars! What a book!!!!!! So informative. This just makes sense. Love the neuroscience elements infused throughout the book. So many managers only want to look at statistics coupled with scientific research. This book melds these with the social-emotional component which is vital to any situation where people are involved. The cyclical approach allows and encourages entry at any point for newcomers and constant revisiting and adjusting of what is occurring, currently and in the future. This book is applicable in situations where growth and change is desired, and needed. Powerfully written with sensible applications and a bit of humor. This reads as though the authors are conversing with the reader. A must read. This book is one to reference often.

I'm a fan of William Bridges' work on transitions and the whole idea that there's an emotional process that's gonna happen, even if we ignore it. Change is emotional. Always. Yet every biz book I've read on change gives a kind of passing nod, "oh, and don't forget to get people on board." Easy, right?
On the other side, non-business books about change are ALL about emotion, and pretty useless as a tool to raise awareness in the real business world. What's powerful here is the blend. It's got a clear, solid business logic AND emotion smart.

Like what Dan Pink put on the back cover: "blends cutting-edge neuroscience with rock-solid business logic, this book will change the way you lead." Amen.

I have used the elements of this book when conducting workshops on change. Josh's insights I to the physiological happenings of change, initiated by feelings is insightful and is a good platform for leaders to understand what is happening when change occurs and give practical tips on how to move from frightened, judgemental mode to engaged, reflective and practice mode. Thank you Josh this is a wonderful book.

So simple, and yet so often untouched by organizational leaders, the principles and practical tools of Inside Change represent a pivot point in how leaders at all levels can effectively approach improving organizational health. From start-ups to well-established organizations, the power is in the practice and the results are well worth the effort.
