A Dream of a CD,
By Charles Hill (Mill Creek, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Inside the Dreaming (Audio CD)
I first heard this CD while my massage therapist was pummeling my back. Normally he puts on this dreary monotonous new age music that sends me to sleep. Not this time! Instead this wonderful fusion of folk, jazz and rock accompanied by crystal clear female voices came on. It made me forget even the pain of a deep tissue massage. The lyrics were so striking I almost sat right up. The Wyrd Sisters weave together their soaring harmonies and thought provoking lyrics into a beautiful ensemble of memorable tracks that get right inside your mind and your heart. This is one of the very few CDs that I have listened to in an awfully long time that literally sent shivers down my spine. There is a great range of styles evident here, from the haunting melodies of the title track and the rebellious and angry "Farewell to Clayoquot Sound", to the blues tinged "Another Dreamless Sleep", the compelling rhythm and lyrics of "Dance Little Brother", and the wonderful vocal harmonies of "Warrior". There isn't a bad track on the CD. I've no idea why the Wyrd Sisters are not better known, because they deserve to be. This is highly original, thoughtful and deeply evocative music. Buy it!

Inside the Dreaming,

I cannot think of words with enough power to express my feelings for this CD. These women know what life is about, the beauty, the pain, the journey, insight, what's beautiful, right and tragic. The expression of life's journey through trial and tribulation flows among times of depair, rage, recovery and powerful triumph. Not recommended for shallow people.

INSIDE THE DREAMING is a spectacular blend of rich and lilting harmonies. It provides a wonderful variety of musical styles, and the lyrics are strong, meaningful, and deeply moving. I strongly recommend ALL recordings by The Wyrd Sisters (LEAVE A LITTLE LIGHT, RAW VOICE, and SIN AND OTHER SALVATIONS in addition to this one), but INSIDE THE DREAMING has a special magic all its own.

I saw the WYRD SISTERS in Marquette Mi. at the music festival (Hiawatha). They're even better live. The band had such a great energy we couldn't leave until their last set was over. I would recommend them to anywone.

I saw this group in Marquette Mi. and after listening to them for 1 hr. I ran to the CD tent and bought all 3 of their tapes. They were so good. All their songs are about things that you can relate to, they are easy to sing along with and you just want to listen to them over and over again.

I bought this cd after hearing one song at a friends house. Now I know why she had the cd. It's the best. I listen to it in the car, at work and at home. I gives the feeling of womanhood. It just makes me feel good to hear it. I'm glad I hunted it down and bought it.

Amazingly, I received this CD free via the Wyrd Sisters' agent. I was trying to track down a Laura Smith recording, and the agent mailed this to me. I can't describe how wonderful it is...As a musician, I appreciate the beautiful voices best. I could easily take the place of any of these women, having committed to memory every song. I give this to all my friends on their birthdays.
