Definitive guide to the future of Web Development, January 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Inside Dynamic HTML (Microsoft Programming Series) (Paperback)
I loved this book! It thoroughly goes into detail about all aspects of Dynamic HTML: Style Sheets, JavaScript 1.2, and the new Document Object Model. Caveats: Will only be useful to those developers with a bit of client-side scripting experience. Also, the examples in the book are Microsoft Internet Explorer centric. However, since the MS implementation is destined to become the WWW3 standard, it's a great tool for boning up on what will be sure to become the de-facto standard for web scripting. Plus, the supplemental web site is one of the best DHTML resources on the net.

Comprehensive Reference And Excellent Tutorial, May 8, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Inside Dynamic HTML (Microsoft Programming Series) (Paperback)
Inside Dynamic HTML provides great insight on all the nuances of the language/object model. Only someone that had been involved in the drafting of the DHTML specification could write about each topic with such an in-depth understanding of the subject matter. Copius Javascript examples of major language features are found in each chapter. The CD-ROM contains an HTML Help searchable reference of the book's text. The insideDHTML web site has lots of working examples and code to download to complement the book. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is serious about learning Microsoft's implementation of DHTML.

A little old but still the best!, December 20, 2000
This review is from: Inside Dynamic HTML (Microsoft Programming Series) (Paperback)
I've had this book for quite some time know and I still refer to it often. Scott Isaacs, one of the men representing Microsoft for the W3C at the time of the books writing and one of the creators of DHTML, does an outstanding job of introducing you to DHTML in a very easy to understand way. If you are familiar with JavaScript and HTML and need a better understanding of how to combine the two to produce interactive webpages this book is for you. While this book is a bit dated it does an excellent job of laying the foundation for the current state of DHTML. The lessons you learn from this book can be extended by visiting the authors website, probably one of THE best websites available today on cross-browser DHTML! This book is a definite buy!

By A Customer
This review is from: Inside Dynamic HTML (Microsoft Programming Series) (Paperback)
The book provided enough samples to give a good basic understanding of DHTML. If you are looking for a quick and handy DHTML reference book this is NOT it.

The BEST book on DHTML., February 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Inside Dynamic HTML (Microsoft Programming Series) (Paperback)
This is THE most thorough and easy to understand book on DHTML today. The author helped create DHTML, so he knows what he's talking about. The website is a great extension of the book.

The best DHTML book available!, January 14, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Inside Dynamic HTML (Microsoft Programming Series) (Paperback)
Great how to's, demo's and explanations. Covers new html extentions, new browser object, dynamic content, dynamic positioning, and cascading style sheets. Most examples are done with JavaScript rather than VBScript and include variations and tips to make code degradable to older browsers. The CD rom, included, is worth the price of the book with tons of great working examples and sample code.

This book provides detailed information for creating MSIE DHTML. However, if you are a novice, you will feel difficult to study. The book assumes that you have already known how to scripting

Perfect, October 9, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Inside Dynamic HTML (Microsoft Programming Series) (Paperback)
It seems that old Microsoft is starting to get its act together and taking instructional design seriously! When I lived in the USA, they used to just dump products on the market with no real support, but if one looks at their own publishing arm...wow. This book is a fine example of same. I was able to get up to speed and start knocking out killer web sites with just the code that comes with the CD. If nothing else, buy the book for the CD alone. But in total the book is awesome. A most have if you are either a beginner or a web wiz! Too bad other companies do not follow the same. Microsoft will truly dominate multimedia if it keeps it up. xie jing Bill gates!

Avoid this book if you want Netscape users to see your site!, November 30, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Inside Dynamic HTML (Microsoft Programming Series) (Paperback)
I am so disappointed that this book is so Microsoft centric. If you believe in the free spirit of internet and you want all users of all major browsers to see your page the way you want them to see, just try another book! "Dynamic HTML Magic" is a much better choice. Also, the book is pretty boring. Most of the examples do not work in Netscape browsers.

VB Scripters Move On, May 18, 2000
This review is from: Inside Dynamic HTML (Microsoft Programming Series) (Paperback)
This book has a lot of fancy Java Script, but to those of us who refuse to write anything compatible with Netscrape (in other words, us VB Scripters), this book is difficult to read. You have to translate the miles of JScript into VB Script. Not much fun. VI Web Technologies reference is a useful daily reference, as well as MSDN Scripting Technologies web site.
