1.0 out of 5 stars What's all the hype about?
I'm a big fan of JF, but obviously not obsessed. I really didn't get much from this album. If you have listened to other Frusciante albums and are worried about the singing in this one too, well you should be. I can't get used to bad singing, maybe it's just me. Unfortunately, JF needs studio polishing when it comes to singing.

If you're searching for some...

John Frusciante. What can i say? He is the most talented musician and songwriter on the face of the earth. This man, as many will agree, needs to be recognised as the most powerful songwriting force on the earth today. His music is trully astonishing, pushing the boundaries of mediocre musical thinking, with complex philosophical lyrics which can be applied to very different moods. This album is fantastic and meets or perhaps exceeds the other previous works. I am from the UK and i know that his albums get very little coverage, and i am not certain of what coverage they get in the USA but i know that these albums have to go down as some of the most talented works ever written.
I know that Josh Klinghoffer works with John on the albums but i am pretty sure that all songs are really the brainchild of John. The albums are raw and other people i have spoken to about the albums and not heard them do not like the description. You need to take yourself out of pop culture thinking - this takes you to another place. I could talk about the effect of John Frusciantes music forever. It has a deep rooted effect on me personally and i want John to continue his huge love for music and writing in the chilis and his solo work. I would love him to tour and do really small and intimate venues where people can marvel at the effect of his music. Although the 6 CD's may burn a hole in your pocket, i would for sure pay this for the genius that is on there. John's music grows and grows when you listen to it. He has a fantastic habit of adding the perfect vocals at the perfect time, with superb emotion that really gets to you. I cannot stop singing Johns lyrics as the songs are so superbly written. I will stop this review now but buy the albums! Keep up the good work John!

5.0 out of 5 stars add more stars, October 29, 2004

first of all, get a yellow marker or crayon, then draw in 5 more stars next to the 5 I already provided. I turn my back for a minute and John releases yet another brilliant solo album. Inside of Emptiness is by far the best CD of the series so far. John turns the rock way up in these songs. His guitar playing and singing have gotten better and better. The recording is intentionally simplistic and rough sounding, but after a few listens, you don't care. The music just takes over and you forget. I can't come up with words to describe thse songs. "Look In" has all the makings of the 70's classic rock sounds. Complete with a long KILLER guitar solo! Some bands take 2-3 years to release an album only to have it be a let down. John releases 6 solo CD's in 6 months and they all deliver. This guy never let's us down.

5.0 out of 5 stars If You Don't Like, You Dont Know Talented Musicians. Period., October 27, 2004

None of the songs are boring, they all are great pieces of work/music by one of the best guitarists ever.
If you are new to Frusciante, get Shadows Collide and TO Record Only Water for 10 days. There are some amazing solos on TROWF10D's. I would recommend all Frusciantes albums although Niandra is definitely the most raw, but the guitar work is superb.
In a day where a lot of music sounds the same, John Frusciante stands out.
I really like track 1, 3 and 6,7 the best. But all are great, those are personally preferences..
Get this cd, you wont regret it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite John Frusciante album, July 19, 2006

This has to be the hardest album Mr. Frusciante has done. It is many forms of rock sandwiched between layers of raw emotion. The thing I've noticed is how it differs *completely* from every other album he's done. While each of them have a different feel or tone to them, I must say that this one stands out. Another thing I liked about it is the heavy distortion he uses on most of the tracks, adding more to the Grungy feel of the album.

I've listened to this album numerous times, and it's been hard to choose, but this is my favorite of all of John Frusciante's work.

Highlights (for me) are: A Firm Kick, Emptiness, I'm Around, and Scratches.

5.0 out of 5 stars Six months afterward, July 11, 2005
This review is from: Inside of Emptiness (Audio CD)
In another review immediately following the release of Curtains, John's final album in his string of releases, I put his albums in order and listed this as second, right after Ataxia's Automatic Writing. I'd like to reverse my prior decision, and place Inside of Emptiness as my favorite.

I've listened to this album over and over and over again since my last review, and this album blows me away from beginning to end, and from front to back.

My favorite songs If I had to pick, my favorite songs would be:
What I Saw: Great opening songs. John has excellent vocal range here.
Look On: Awesome song. I love how John's voice breaks slightly at the end of each verse before singing, "Look on, Look on, Look on." The solo is great too.
Interior Two: Could be my favorite. This has a 50's style twang to it. John's voice gets really high, and just makes your want to sing along.
Scratches: Words cannot explain how tremendous this song is. Absolute perfection all the way around. The first 2 minutes are rather slow with John's voice being the most predominant. Then his guitar starts doing the singing too. Of the six albums he put out, this song has to be the best.

So in conclusion I'd recommend really sitting down and listening to this album, cause it will blow your mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars blissful touch, June 27, 2006
This review is from: Inside of Emptiness (Audio CD)
This album sucks me in and spits me out having gained and lost something. The lyrics snatch my attention in all his songs as they do here. Great to play and sing on guitar, A Firm Kick's chorus is so simple, melancholic yet uplifting, quite a dichotomy! If I didnt steal this from a friend I would have bought it already.

5.0 out of 5 stars super, July 6, 2005
By
This review is from: Inside of Emptiness (Audio CD)
Inside of Emptiness is my favorite of his 6 album/6 month releases. "Look On" is without a doubt the best song on the album. The lyrics are incredible, and tell the story of his life shortly before he got off heroin, and topped with a two minute guitar solo. Omar Rodriguez does a great job on "666" on the guitar, and Josh's drum line on "Emptiness" is the best drumming I have heard out of him. Everyone should buy this album, whether or not they like him, because it is a super album in every aspect.

5.0 out of 5 stars powerful drugs on a shiny silver disc, December 29, 2004
This review is from: Inside of Emptiness (Audio CD)
Words escape me to describe Inside of Emptiness. Magnificent comes close. Beautiful approaches the truth from another angle. What it really is is genius. Genius is such a dry, cliched word, but it is the truth. I find tracks 1 through 5 are some of my favorite Frusciante songs ever. Every time I try to narrow it down a little more than that, I am defeated. And I think about this EVERY DAY, folks.

Yes, some may have been disappointed to learn that this is much less experimental than John's other work. The rumors were true, but the fears were entirely unfounded. I am a longtime fan of John Frusciante's solo work and own all of his CD's, and I am telling you that this is one of the best, if not his very best. When I listen to IOE, it feels like the pleasure centers of my brain are directly being touched. Get it today.
