Notable USAF Jet Fighters Up-Close-and-Personal!, September 2, 2009
This review is from: Inside the Great Jet Fighters (Paperback)
Noted author Bob Dorr presents a color tribute to some of the U. S. Air Force's most famous fighters of the past 50 years in this delightful 1996 volume from Motorbooks International. Fighter buffs will love the full-color treatment given to such greats as the Sabre, Phantom and Fighting Falcon.
INSIDE THE GREAT JET FIGHTERS covers six fighters - the F-84, F-86, F-100, F-4, F-15 and F-16 - in the book's 128 pages. Over 170 well-captioned, full color photographs show the aircraft in all their glory - general views, close-ups and air-to-air. Dorr took some of the shots; most were contributed by former USAF servicemen. And, truth be told, some of them have appeared in other books but it's nifty to have them all in one spot!
While the book is a visual delight, there's also an element of sadness. As you page through all those gorgeous shots of F-84s, -86s and -100s in their multi-hued schemes and then come to the drab, drab, drab camouflage worn by F-16s and F-15s, you feel something special has been taken away from those mighty birds.
In any case, anyone interested in Air Force history or fighters in general will enjoy Dorr's book. It's colorful and informative. Recommended.
