Paul Horn was a jazz flutist. He still does wonderful jazz.But playing the flute inside of holy places has become what Paul Hornis all about. This was one of the first. Most of us will never enter the Great Pyramid. Paul Horn went in with his flute. And what resulted is haunting, spiritual, and transforming. He followed this with a second trip, plus similar "Inside" meditations at places like the Taj Mahal. If you have a spiritual side and haven't heard one of these albums you don't know what new age music is supposedly trying to reach for.

I can't thank Amazon enough for my CD "Inside the Great Pyramid" by Paul Horn. I have been looking for this CD for amost 3 years now and am very happy that I kept placing my wish order with Amazon.

The music is remarkable and uplifting as it was recorded inside the Great Pyramid. It is very spiritual and healing and wonderful for meditations. Recently, I have been going through a dark time in my life, but I listen to my CD every evening before I go to bed and the sun has been shining every morning.

I have had this CD for years, and Paul Horn Inside the Great Pyramid is one of those exquisite CD's that you keep a lifetime. Sadly, this title seems to be out of print. If you can lay your hands upon one, spare no expense - get it! You definitely will not be sorry. The resonance of Horn's flute within the walls of the Great Pyramid is nothing short of ethereal.

For anyone who is familiar with Paul Horn's landmark "Inside 1 and 2" albums
(1 is "Inside the Taj Mahal" and "Inside 2" is flute with dolphins and weird electronics,
that you can get separately or on One CD release of both);these sounds were a breakthrough
in an Etherial Inspired Spiritual trek in music at it's best; this follow up in the "Inside"
series is a Gem; this time M.Horn does the chanting himself and the sounds he creates
"Inside the Great Pyramid" of Gizeh are stunning; he has to adjust his flutes because
the Pyramid "bends the sound" by half an octave or so. It's flute improvisation that
you just cannot get enough or tired of; the only reason I bought this version is because
it has the original artwork with a thick booklet of pictures and explanations of this unusual
journey in which he successfully convinced the Egyptian government to allow him one night
inside the pyramid, I believe he was the first to succeed; the original double vinyl
was embossed in gold. The newer release has a different cover.

I have the original vinyl Double Album and the reason I only gave it 4 stars is that
this earlier CD version contains only Disc One of the Original 1977 release; half the music is missing!
You only know this if you've heard it before; why they chose to put only half the music
on this version is beyond me (marketing strategy?).

This version contains 3 sections: Initiation, Meditation and Enlightenment (62.40 minutes, which is great)
but there are three more sections on the original double album named: Fulfillment, Resurrection and Eternity:
20 more tracks! The subsequent re-issue contains all 40 tracks and I found it at Amazon.ca

62 minutes is still very good but there is double the content on the second CD release
advertised: "with previously unreleased tracks"; it's rare and expensive but well worth it
if you enjoy Paul Horn's mystical approach with the Flute.

In the mid 1980s I was sleeping at a friend's house in an unfamiliar Chicago neighborhood. I awoke in the middle of the night to music I could barely hear that sounded like someone playing hauntingly beautiful flute under a viaduct. In the morning it turned out to have been my friend listening to this record in the living room, a mundane explanation for an exquisite experience.

Paul Horn's "Inside the Great Pyramid" is a delight, and Textbook Shack shipped a pristine CD copy that arrived within three days. Great doing business with Textbook Shack.

Years ago, I had the pleasure of meeting Paul Horn and hearing him play live - what a very special treat. I think I have most of his albums - and this IS one of my very favorites! It calms me, soothes me, transcends me to another time and space. And as a flute player myself (silver and Native American style)- I find it a great inspiration. Enjoy this and his other albums recorded on site...you will not be disappointed. Travel with his wonderful music!!

I use music to change my mood from stressed and overworked to carefree. This album is ideal for that. Plus I love the creativity of the artist.
