I bought this book at a local used book store for a dollar. I consider it a steal. It provides an excellent overview of the history of Special Forces, from its roots in the OSS to its training procedures, and its adventures in places such as Bad Tolz, Belgian Congo, Latin America, and South East Asia. You'll read about John-Waynesque men such as Fred Zabitosky and Larry Thorne. Much of the book, however, concentrates on operations during the Vietnam War. It has specific details on CIDG camps, mobile strike missions, and the like.

I found it to be a real page turner, highly recommended.

I bought this book in 1984? because of my interest in Special Forces. It is a fantastic history of what was a unit most people knew little about. It seems that SF wanted it that way. The book covers bios of key personnel of SF from the early years, a variety of missions, the training and how the beret was adopted.
This is a fantastic read for those with an interest in the elite men that make up the Special Forces
