3.0 out of 5 stars Good introduction, December 15, 2008

This book was considered revolutionary when it appeared addressing both homosexual and heterosexuals. Dr. Weinberg, who is a practicing psychotherapist involved in educating the public on the issue of homosexuality, analyzes the harmful prejudice against homosexuals called homophobia.

The book explains possible causes of homophobia; sheds light on the bias of psychoanalysis; makes a case against trying to convert homosexuals; enlightens on how to be a healthy homosexual; provides tips on `coming out' to parents and also has tips for parents. The last two chapters covered Weinberg's reflections and stance towards homosexuality in our culture moving forward.

I was surprised by how relevant this book still is 35 years forward, and by the comprehensiveness of this book. This is a classic and a great introduction to those who have little idea of homosexuality.

This book should be read not only by homosexuals eager to overcome their fears and guilts, but also by teachers and parents of homosexuals, as well as students of this often misunderstood subject.
