Inside Jihad by Dr. Tawfik Hamid is a book that must be read in order to truly understand radical Islam and begin the discussion that will lead to the end of Islamic terrisiom. As a former federal agent fighting on the frontlines of the Global War on Terrorism, I believe strongly that this book must get the widest circulation possible. The insight that Dr. Hamid provides based on his recruitment into Jamaa Islamiya and his contact with Ayman Al-Zawahiri, is invaluable. Having served in a career dedicated to combatting terrorism, it is evident that the ideas commuicated by Dr. Hamid in his book Inside Jihad are the key to truly addressing the issue of the senseless murders of thousands of innocents by the Islamists and their culture of hatred. Dr. Hamid outlines the step-by-step process that is used by these terrorist organizations to desensitize and motivate their fellow Muslims into committing the horrible acts of murder that have become all too familiar to us. As outlined by Dr. Hamid, not only do we need to contiue to conduct military and law enforcement actions against these organizations, but we also need to engage in an honest dialogue about Islam. As he states, political correctness needs to be checked at the door, and discussion needs to begin globally on non-Quranic texts and how they can be used to fuel such hatred and violent actions. Please read this book and carry the message by passing it on to others interested in understanding and confronting radical Islam. Dr. Hamid, may God be with you and protect you as you continue your very important work.

Inside Jihad is short - less than 200 pages, and written in what I call "plain English". It is EYE OPENING.

Dr. Hamid describes how he was recruited into a Jihad movement while a young medical student in Egypt, how he was encouraged to change from a secular Muslim son of successful, secular parents into a radical Muslim; and how he managed to escape the seduction of Islamism (radical Islam).

Speaking from inside knowledge, he explains the difference between the Islamic practices of Sufism and Salafism - the latter of which is the basis of radical Islam. And he then explains why Islamism was able to spread from Saudi Arabia throughout the Muslim world starting in the latter half of the 20th century. He describes the goals, strategy and methods used by Islamists. He also explains the phenomenon of the "silent majority" of non-radical Muslims.

Dr. Hamid sheds light on how fundamentalism has been able to rapidly sweep through Muslim countries in the last 40 years, radical Islam's success in recruiting more and more Muslims to radicalism and what the West can do to stop the spread of Islamism. In analyzing the spread of Islamism and its goals, he clarifies its true causes as well as a whole list of commonly, but wrongly held notions of its causes. As he says, as in medicine, to treat a patient based on a symptom that you attribute to a wrong disease will not result in a cure. To treat incorrect causes of Islamism will also not result in a cure.

In explaining the difference between the Koranic verses and the Hadiths and how the latter has been used to radicalize Muslims, Dr. Hamid also gives us an answer to reversing this process.

There is more worthwhile information, common sense and reality based proposals for combating this danger to the modern world packed into these 200 pages than in everything I have read on radical Islam combined. I highly, highly recommend it.

The so-called "War on Terror" is really a fight against Jihad, an idea as powerfully destructive as the Nazi ideology of last century. How bizarre that even though "Know your enemy" is the first rule of war, not even our government, never mind the press, has been explaining to Americans that Jihad is what the free world is struggling to subdue when we fight Al Qaeda in Iraq and Afghanistan, Hamas and Hezbollah in the Middle East, and Iran, on its way to having nuclear weapons. This book brilliantly explains Jihad. A doctrine that aims for Islam to dominate America and the globe, this dangerous ideology endorses violence, brutality, lying, and extreme suppression of women. Jihad would seem naive, archaic, and irrelevent if it weren't spreading so insidiously and potently around the globe, and even here in the US. Wake up America! Jihad is seriously at war with us. This is a book all Americans, and especially those in government and the media, must read.

Having read the politically correct, whitewashed and airbrushed versions of Islam by the likes of John Esposito, and then the writings of former Muslims (Ali Sina) who hate the religion for its inherent violence and think it must be abolished completely, I was tremendously impressed at the mind that not only explains the origins of jihad but actually presents a means of reconstructing Islam using its own scripture. If his suggestions were followed this world would be a happy, peaceful place for people of all faiths, not least of which Muslims themselves. However, that's a big "IF". It would require a wide reading first of all. Secondly it needs Muslims who would dare to order this book and read it in secret if necessary.

This well-written book explains much more than Jihad to the Western reader. Dr Hamid spent much of his life in Egypt and Saudi Arabia. For the past 10 years he has lived in the West and has a thorough understanding of the critical differences between Islam and other religions. Central to the core of Islam is the belief that the whole world will adopt the Muslim faith and judicial system. This makes Islam fundamentally different from Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism and other religions.
