Excellent English-language Debut from a Fabulous Artist,
This review is from: From the Inside (Audio CD)
I hadn't heard of Laura until 10/15/02 when I was at a free AOL show to advertise 8.0 in New York when a screen playing Laura Pausini's SURRENDER music video appeared from nowhere. Who was this person, and why were they showing her video? I soon found out, because she was suddenly on stage 5 yards from me lip-syncing the video, emerging from the darkness. Then the audio turned off, and she proceeded to sing the song live. By the time she'd left, she's sung SURRENDER and IF THAT'S LOVE. She'd captivated the audience; they loved her. I have to admit, the two songs didn't particularly *amaze* me, but I very much admired her ability to get up and so splendidly perform in front of an easy 2000+ audience that didn't even know who she was. So I bought the CD on 12/03/02. I have loved it ever since. It absolutely spooks me to think that this talented lady was standing feet from me and I had no idea of just how great she was when the event was happening. It's very frustrating, but also an experience to remember; one like no other. The CD really amazed me that much. Songs like the rocking LOVE COMES FROM THE INSIDE, innocent yet excellent pop like EVERY DAY IS A MONDAY and SURRENDER as well as pure Celine-esque balladry with tunes like IT'S NOT GOODBYE and IF THAT'S LOVE all stick like ear candy. However, the best 2 tracks here are both versions of EVERY LITTLE THING YOU DO, an absolutely beautiful song, particularly the piano/vocal reprise version. (A little story behind the song: Laura recorded it with the same microphone Madonna recorded her hit FROZEN with. While recording Madonna would put her gum on the microphone. For luck, Laura did this too.) Indeed, Laura did not need the luck. How modest of her to think she needed any. One listen and you will certainly know she did not. Almost definitely after one full listen to this album and you will want to explore Laura's Italian and Spanish outings dating back to 1993; I know I do; I very much look forward to expanding my Laura collection past this CD. She is definitely an artist for you to be keeping your eye on. (The remixes of SURRENDER reached #5 on the HOT DANCE MUSIC/CLUB PLAY Billboard charts and are now at #7. They too are available as a cool CD-Maxi single that makes a nice companion to FROM THE INSIDE, and getting a copy soon would be a wise move-it's already out of print.)

Laura Pausini, remember that name!,

I was first introduced to Laura Pausini with the song SEAMISAI from Le Cose Che Vivi while enrolled in a Italian course at college. From then on, I was hooked on one of the world's most talented vocalist. Laura's voice knows how to capture your inner emotion, whether it is filled with love or simply heartbroken. It is amazing to see an artist carry that same vocal power in any language. From The Inside proves that Laura can capture any sentiment regardless of which tongue she decides to use. Songs like I Need Love, Do I Dare, and Without You are signature Laura. For those of you are that familiar with her work will recongize the "oooohhhh" she uses in You Are when jumping from the chorus to the second verse. Simply amazing! Contrary to popular belief, Every Day Is A Monday was not a translation of a previous hit, it was origionally written in English and later released as Il Mio Sbaglio Piu Grande/Un Error de los Grandes. The only disappointment I have is the lack of air play and video play that Laura is getting in the US. If you decide to purchase this cd you will not be sorry. Give this already proven world-wide superstar a try, if you are new to Laura get her The Best Of.../Lo Mejor de... cd, it showcases the best this amazing singer has to offer.

What a great album! I've been listening to Laura Pausini since long time ago, actually have some of her spanish albums but this is the first one I listen that's entirely on english. I tried to search for this album in my local music stores (even in Argentina) but seems only available to people in the US, so I bought it and I dont regret it. Some melodies are familiar to me, who had listened these same tracks on spanish vocals, and some others are just impressing. She's got that candid, pop, sweet voice that distinguih her from the rest. You should buy this album if you havent heard her sing in english, and if you had, try buying some of her spanish-only albums.

AMAZING CD, Laura has evolved,
By A Customer
This review is from: From the Inside (Audio CD)
To begin, Laura is an amazing singer which has already demonstrated to half of the world she can sing in italian, spanish, portuguese and english long before she released this exclusive english album. Pure voice talent, filled with great melodies and profound lyrics (no-nonsense). From the Inside offers so much more now, great music arrangements that have changed somewhat from her usual type of songs, obviously because of the mixture of producers she has on this CD (which is amazing who and how many she has). "I Need Love", which had to be the first one, is just a terrific song and she sings it beautifully. Includes new tempos, upbeat and sincere at the same time. She sounds a bit different from her other CDs due to the backgrounds too, but it's refreshing nonetheless. "Surrender" is a welcoming pop song that everyone should have heard it by now I hope. Her english adaptions of a few songs turn out well, although you should buy the other versions to fully enjoy it. There is one song that really stands out in my mind now because it is so surprising, "I DO TO BE" which is very well performed, totally different, new style (could not even recognize her with all the electronics in it) but sounds really good and catchy. Most importantly, it suits her because when Celine Dion tried a new style, uuhh, it did not go. Laura has grown professionally, and this CD is just another gift for the long time fans. To end this, "WITHOUT YOU" follows her usual ballad style and she shows her powerful singing voice and the ranges she can obtain. PERFECTION. A DEFINITE CD to add to your Laura Collection and a for the new listener, you will love her!

LAURA'S ENGLISH BREAKOUT,
By
This review is from: From the Inside (Audio CD)
When Laura took Spain like a storm about 10 years ago, I really didn't think she would get this far. But with her incredible voice and enchanting persona, she has managed to achieve success after success singing in native Italian, then Spanish and Portuguese. Now her English-language debut shows a more mature Laura. The album focuses more in her ballad style, but also includes powerful up-tempo songs ("Surrender", the first single, "I Do To Be") and two adaptations of her Italian/Spanish hits: It's Not Goodbye (my all-time Laura favourite, "In assenza di te", and "Everyday is a Monday" (Il mio sbaglio piu grande"). I love "Love Comes From the Inside" and "Every Little Thing You Do". Pity that her English tracks from previous European albums (such as "Looking for an Angel", "One More Time" or "The Extra Mile")have not been included as bonus tracks...a good reason to look for all her other recordings!. Good luck, Laura!

An accident of the best kind!,

I accidentally stumbled upon Laura last year, with a big help from the American soap, All My Children. During one of their infamous dramatic scenes, they decided to let Laura's beautiful voice fill the TV screen and that's when I heard "I Need Love." After hearing the song, I quickly shut off my tape and ran downstairs to the computer lab at my College and searched for information on "that song" as I so affectionately referred to it. I came up empty handed, but at the end of the night I decided to check my mail and read my postings for a yahoo group I'm in. Well, who would have guessed it but a woman had asked the same question and that's the first time I ever heard of Laura Pausini or her music. I admit at first, the album took me a while to get used to. It wasn't as catchy as "I Need Love," but as I began to listen to the album more, I realized it was quickly one of my favorites. That's when I got curious and decided I wanted to know more about who this girl was. You can imagine my surprise, when I realized she originally sang in Italian & Spanish. I call it a surprise, only because I happen to love Italian singers and their music and the fact she sings with no clear accent. And even though I don't speak a word of Italian, I always manage to get lost in the music of such powerful voices like the great Pavarotti, the magnificent Andrea Bocelli, my next favorite female singer Giorgia, and the newcomer Helena Hellwig. All of these along with Laura have hooked me into this music and the language. I guess it also doesn't hurt that my heritage is Italian, we'll never know. All I can say is that this album may not catch you at first, but as you give it another listen you will most likely fall in love with it! I also recommend that you take a listen to her Italian/Spanish material. You will probably be shocked at how much you enjoy it, despite not understanding it.

Another Foreign Diva attack! No choice but to ... surrender!,
By
This review is from: From the Inside (Audio CD)
Following in the heavy footsteps of so many other foreign Divas must be daunting for Italy's gorgeous Laura Pausini, but she takes it in great stride here with her stellar US/ full English-language debut. The songs aren't too different from the usual foreign diva fare but the voice is amazing; clear, confident, soaring and a total pleasure to listen to. Right from the start, with the gorgeous, uplifting, mid-tempo gem I Need Love, Laura Pausini stands out as an Artist to watch and remember. Lead single, Surrender, looks like being a sleeper hit; one of those slow-growing anthems that eventually goes to dizzy pop heights, spreading the word in the same way that I Will Love Again did for Lara Fabian. A great, upbeat power-hit with shades of Michelle Branch and Cher. Surrender is the start. As with every high-profile Foreign-Diva debut, the album is jam-packed with radio-friendly and club-ready hits like the rocking, piano-powered, Patrick Leonard-produced Love Comes From The Inside/ the bright, catchy Every Day Is A Monday/ and the irresistible, girly I Do To Be. Of course, no Foreign Diva album would be complete without some seriously strong and emotive power-ballads. Pausini raises the bar with her chosen anthems: the already tried & tested Italian hit It's Not Goodbye/ the elegant Every Little Thing You Do/ and the Céline-like You Are. At 46 minutes, it's a modest debut that you'll want to play again straight away. And that's how it grows on you! Ok Céline did it first with her break-through Power Of Love album, and Lara Fabian did it with her gorgeous self-titled set in 2000, but what's wrong with another hit-laden, well-produced, big voice, Foreign Diva CD?! Nothing at all! Bring it on!
