Book Description

CD Rom November 1994
The Macintosh system has matured over the past 12 years into the sophisticated and diverse Mac OS that developers work with today. Apple is meticulous in its documentation of the Mac OS, and the result is the Inside Macintosh series. Apple and A-W make this documentation available to you in a variety of formats: * Individual bound books (paper! how novel!) * Electronic full text in DocViewer format: Inside Mac CD-ROM * Electronic quick reference: Macintosh Programmer's Toolbox Assistant The complete list of 27 titles is pretty daunting, but take heart. You can think of Inside Mac topics in two groups: those that are common to all Macs, and those that are specific to your application. The core technology topics: * The Macintosh Toolbox * Interapplication Communication * Text * Imaging with QuickDraw * Memory, Processes, Files, Operating System Utilities, Devices Specialized technology topics: * QuickTime * PowerPC System Software, PowerPC Numerics * Sound * Networking * AOCE * QuickDraw GX You should have a good grasp of the core topics, then pick and choose which specialized topics are for you among the current titles in the Inside Macintosh series. Other technical books by Apple are published in the Apple Technical Library Series. Find out more about Inside Macintosh from Apple. 3.0 out of 5 stars Usefull, but dated., June 23, 1999

This review is from: Inside Macintosh CD-ROM (Audio CD)
This book is collection of Macintosh programming manuals till 1995. The userinterface to these books is implemented at technology of that date. In current standards that means outdated. Same goes with information within. So, why this many stars then? The reason is that buying this book makes sence. In constract of buying the paper cover versions of these books the price is there about one tenth. I still prefer the paper cover versions, but I bought only the most important ones and used this CD to cover the rest.

This CD has very low system requirements which means that if it makes sence to connect CD-drive to your Mac, this will work. In that perspective dated technology is a plus.

Currently Apple holds on its site upto date edition of the entire Inside Macintosh series. If you have constant access to net, using it is better choise than this CD. How ever, this CD still is relatively cheep back up for offline working situations.

I recommend this book for non-professional Mac programmes. Usefullness/price ratio is good. For professionals Apple offers very expencive pacage which tries to cover targeted customers of this product.
