5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic book for 70-542 December 9, 2008
I purchased this book to prepare for the 70-542 exam. The book is very well written and its just hard to believe that so many concepts were covered in just 300 odd pages. Please note that this book is for developers and not for administrators. The book covers development concepts for search, BDC, infopath forms services, excel services, policies, records center and more.
I absolutely loved the way Patrick had a flow of thoughts going on in the book. It made absolute sense. Also, The chapter on BDC is probably the most comprehensive BDC coverage I have seen till date at one place. If you dont know anything about BDC and read this chapter, thats all you would need to know.
I just loved it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good material... January 27, 2008
The author presents a pretty good sampling of how-to material (it would be difficult to get full coverage of MOSS without a multi-volume issue) but falls a bit short of what I might expect from an "Inside..." title. I would have liked to see more detail on some of the deeper architectural workings of MOSS. The author no doubt knows product extension with .NET well and provides an abundance of attention - especially to search customization development. To the author and publishers' credit, the book is targetted to a developer audience. All in all a solid effort.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ahead of it's Time February 8, 2013
By dropkic
First of all, I am the real deal and a true SharePoint administrator and developer. Yes, I do both and to me that's just a given because SharePoint is web development, but with a different approach and focus. I won't get into all that but I will say that when MOSS2007 was released back in January 2007 there was absolutely nothing in the form of documentation from Microsoft much less any written material that could offer some insight as to what could be done and how to apply it. This was the first book along with Ted Pattison's WSS3.0 book that I purchased back then and they were both invaluable and instrumental to my success as a SharePoint developer. To this day I see this book as one of the best out there and an excellent book to start off with in getting familiar with WSS 3.0 and the office integration. This book is for, as you want to call it, both the administrator and the developer. It's well written and provides a wealth of useable, applicable, and valuable real world scenarios and solutions. Don't know the best way to create a page layout? Get this book! What else can I say?

Currently helping me jump right in to a project, and it seems to be doing the job. I don't have any other sharepoint books to compare this to, but I like it so far.
