Well Worth The Wait,
This review is from: Inside My Love (Audio CD)
There are so many things I could say about this album, but the title of the my review is just: this album, created about 10 years ago and finally just seeing the light of day, is well worth the wait for those of us who have been hoping this album would finally be released. The album features lots of live instrumentation and flows really well. I enjoy each and every song and it's rare that I can listen to an album in its entirety. A very beautiful and soulful project. It also includes one Christmas track that I'm enjoying listening to despite it not being Christmas time. Trina's a superb vocalist and the production is outstanding. This album was deemed the greatest album to never be released by Jermaine Dupri in the book he released last year, since she was a protege of his. This album is for folks with maturity who can get past the music that's been shoved down our throats since the turn of the century: club joints with simple, stupid and exploitive lyrics. We need to support artists like Trina.

Caution:Big People Music,

This review is from: Inside My Love (Audio CD)
I like many, many, people on here, have often been guilty of over marking on some of my reviews, especially when I first started. I can on occasion go over board when I first hear a CD, but that comes with the territory: for lovers of music, that excitement is what drives us. Excitement being the opportune word one would use to describe this re-lease of this 1999 CD, original out on So-So Def, but now brought out of the vaults by Expansion Records (Ralph Tee, respect due)
This is a quality that SHOULD have made this lady a superstar in the waiting. Why it hasn't, (and the fact that I wasn't aware of this CD on release) says alot about the music Industry today. Anyway onto the CD, with production by, Jamey Jaz, Waryn Campbell, Gordon Williams, Kelvin Broughton and Ms Broussard, with Rahsaan Patterson on writing duties, this CD is a must for lovers of mid-to-slow tempo modern soul. From the first note to the last it just oozes class. I can honestly say that's there not a bad song on here. No filler, no let-s try -and make the pop market. Just good old fashion relationship music. The quality songs just keep on coming. I struggle to pick out the highlights, but if pushed, I would say that 'Sailing'( which I have heard before, but did not attribute it to Ms Broussard)which, once I knew was on here, made me buy this, quick fast, in a hurry, the glorious, 'Inside My Love' ( from the Love Jones film), and the one up-tempo song on here 'Remember Me' but that just me picking hairs: this is quality big people music, that deserves to be heard, as much as this lady deserves all the success she gets. Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A Vocal Performance!!,

This review is from: Inside My Love (Audio CD)
I should preface this by saying that I'm a huge fan of Trina Broussard's. In today's crop of singers there are only a few that stand out as superior vocalists. I'm not talking about power here, but grace - Trina seems to really know her instrument and she has the innate ability to use it to full effect while at the same time being a master of restraint. I've loved her first major label project, "Still The Same Girl" since the first spin. This is her lesser known first album, which to me is the stronger of the two. Production is first rate. Her voice rides the music like a wave, occasionally building up and crashing to the surface so that she grabs your attention again. I have a hard time saying which is the weaker track(s). I'd have to say that for the moment my favorites in order are: (11) It's Not Really Christmas (this is the first song I heard/saw her sing); (4) Say You Really Love Me; (9) Remember Me; (8) All Night Long; (10) Love You So Much; (6) Not Around; (3) All I Need Is You; (2) Why Do I Feel So Sad. I won't mention Inside My Love and Losing My Mind, since I've been listening to those for about 3+ yrs. It means a lot to me that this project is from 1999 and it sound like it should be played NOW.
If you're looking for sheer power, this is not your girl. Her power comes from her ebb and flow. You get tired of the "singing in the mirror with hairbrush wanne-bes?" - grab this CD.
