Best book on New Age by an insider !
Everytime there is a book exposing the New Age or Wicca, their followers flood Amazon with bad reviews. Don`t waste your time with them. This book is excellent ! It is well written, well documented, and very interesting. It is an eye opener ! It shows the story of a former new ager, who was heavily into their religion. They can`t deny that. He asked for God to show him if his beliefs were true and then his "good spirit guides" showed their faces as what they really were...evil demons. He was then terribly persecuted by them. Here in Brazil we know this very well, that involvement with the occult leads to contacts with demons who destroy your life. But in the materialistic First World, this is considered superstition. Don`t be deceived, they are out there to get you.

The one thing about New Age is that it plays the blame game. Just listen carefully and you will see reductionist thinking to control the Universe. Sorry ... no one is that powerful. This is an old book but a worthy read before you dabble.
There is such a thing as magic and the world of spirit has positive and negative entities. Unless you were born like Edgar Cayce with psychic ability and profound healing talents, stay away from this stuff. Not only is it dangerous like a Pandora's box but it will tamper with your spiritual foundation. Metaphysics is NOT New Age. New Age is a culture of hodge-podge spirituality without the accountability. The core motivation in people who are seeking New Age is often a need to control. They want to learn magic and all sorts of psychic arts so they can manipulate events. The tragedy is that spiritual bondage may happen. There are many spirit-based tools out there but the key, like many things, is discernment.

Very well written first-person report.,

I found the book very informative and entertaining. The first-person account isn't just a scary tale meant to frighten children away from the New Age. It is someone's personal story of what happened to them.
The negative reviewers have clearly not read the book. They are full of cliche's against Christians that simply adopt every negative stereotype without their own experience. They accept the New Age, and reject anyone that speaks against it. That's their right, but lying about the contents of the book simply because you disagree with the conclusions is dishonest.

The Best, Most Authoritative Book on this Subject!,

This review is from: Inside the New Age Nightmare: For the First Time Ever...a Former Top New Age Leader Takes You on a Dramatic Journey (Paperback)
Randall N. Baer, formerly a respected leader in the New Age movement and author of noted New Age tomes "The Crystal Connection: A Guidebook for Personal and Planetary Ascension" and "Windows of Light: Using Quartz Crystals as Tools for Self-Transformation", has penned the most revealing look inside the New Age Movement to date. Mr. Baer was deeply immersed in many of the New Age practices; in fact, his entire personal and professional life revolved around its myriad concepts. This lends credence to his discovery of the hidden dangers of the movement, and adds weight to his warnings of how seductive, yet ultimately deceptive the "benefits" of the movement can be. Anyone familiar with Mr. Baer's earlier works should seriously consider examining his arguments in this, his final book, and perhaps re-examing their own perspectives on the New Age.

There's a lot that gives this book great relevance in our times. First off, New Age ideology has invaded many realms of public life. Under the guises of non-religious wisdom, philosophy, psychological practices, legitimate religion, medicine and even, science (alternative or not), the New Age subversion of our thinking is deliberate and subtle. Unfortunately, many of us would just as soon entrust the well-being of their soul to whomever is noisy and colorful enough to attract their attention--and plenty of New Age charlatans are just waiting for their turn at the hapless followers' wallet. This author discusses the New Age deception from many years of personal experience. He describes the experiences of (temporary) elation that New Age practices brought him, the fame and seduction of becoming a New Age leader, as well as the dramatic and painful consequences of this ideology. Fortunately, he has a good ending to report as his soul and spirit found truth and rest in the one true God (eternal rest, soon after the book was published and the author passed away). This book ought to be mandatory reading for all of us who have been seduced by such foolish claims as "all roads lead to God," "it doesn't matter what you believe in as long as it works for you," "just try to be a good person" and many others like it. This author does not just dispense opinions but refers to his own personal experience as a New Age "leader." I highly recommend this book to all of us interested in contemporary thought, as well as those of us caught in the clutches of New Age thinking or desirous to reach out to others in need of help.

This is truly an insider's account. It's one thing to read a book on the New Age movement by a Christian researcher, and there are many such books. But this is from a man who literally lived it, before coming to Christ. Fascinating stuff. Randall Baer tells us how he got sucked in, his highs and lows while in the movement, and how he was finally able to get out from it.The creepy, demonic nature of the New Age movement practically jumps out at you from off the pages. Very well written.
New Agers will hate this book. But this book is especially good if you have a loved one who is in the movement, or if you are trying to witness to someone who is involved in the movement. This is a good way of understanding the New Age culture and its seductive ways of pulling people in, and keeping them in.

The Truth About the New Age Movement,
By
This review is from: Inside the New Age Nightmare: For the First Time Ever...a Former Top New Age Leader Takes You on a Dramatic Journey (Paperback)
This book is great for people who either are or have at some time been involved in the New Age Movement. I was involved in the New Age movement in some form or another for about 10 years until I accepted the Lord into my life about 3 years ago. At that time I still no idea the mess I had let my life become.Only after studying the Bible and spending time with other Christians have I realized how I had let New Age philosophies infiltrate into every area of my life, many times unknowingly. The only way for someone who has been exposed to this lifestyle to get out of it is to read books like this that show how someone has separated themselves from it and essentially adopted an entirely new lifestyle. It is not at all an easy thing to do and the author was very brave to come forward and share his story. Although his life did have a tragic ending he touched (and is still touching) many lives with this book.

Obviously True,
This review is from: Inside the New Age Nightmare: For the First Time Ever...a Former Top New Age Leader Takes You on a Dramatic Journey (Paperback)
I read this book several years ago. I never got over it. Mr. Baer's incredible description of the deception within the New Age movement is extremely helpful to someone without detailed knowledge of the dangers involved there. His salvation experience could only have been described by someone who actually experienced it. It was not fiction, nor fabrication. The book leaves you with a choice, "Choose you this day whom you will serve." Refusing to believe in God or satan, does not cause either one to cease to exist. And selecting what you want from the various religions ("Smorgasboard Religion) would have to mean that God is schizophrenic. Why would He keep changing His name, His attributes, His requirements for heaven, ect., like that? It's not logical, it doesn't add up. And how could you worship a god like that? And if you worship no god at all, you are really worshipping yourself, which is pride, and the ultimate sin, and so, you have played into satan's hands after all. If you don't believe he exists, he has you exactly where he wants you. No, there is no third choice. I have read many exposes on the New Age movement, this is one of best. Randall Baer wrote the book when he found Truth, and reached out in love to those who are still deceived. He counted the cost.

A man drunk on demonic delusions,
By Ashtar Command "Seeker" (Stockholm, Sweden) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Inside the New Age Nightmare: For the First Time Ever...a Former Top New Age Leader Takes You on a Dramatic Journey (Paperback)
"Inside the New Age Nightmare" is written by a former New Age leader who converted to Christian fundamentalism. (He is now deceased.)
The first part of the book (chapters 1 - 3) is quite interesting, at least from some kind of ethnological perspective. Baer seems to have been involved in a wide range of New Age pursuits, some of them quite bizarre, and describes them in some detail. For instance, he attended a "vision quest" in the wilderness of Utah, which turned out to be a crack course in hard core survivalism. Baer also practiced Silva Mind Control, apparently a powerful meditation technique which induces very vivid hallucinations. Naturally, he also experimented with hallucinogenic drugs. Later, the author visited some religious cults (surprisingly charitably described in the book), was tortured by a quack during an alternative therapy session, and hooked up with the UFO subculture. Baer also had time to meet a self-proclaimed Messiah, who was easier than usual to expose. More disturbingly, Baer believed that the Great White Brotherhood and the Intergalactic Space Federation were talking through the mouth of his wife, Vicki. (An obvious delusion. Take it from me!) It also turns out that Baer was one of the people behind the "crystal craze" of the 1980's. He wrote several books on the subject, and became a leading spokesperson for the New Age in the process. What struck me when reading these chapters were three things. First, the large number of well-educated and seemingly normal people involved in this movement, its commercial character and the apparent success of it. Second, the ease with which Baer accepted even the most outlandish aspects of New Age. Visions, talking to spirits, being taken by angels to remote parts of the universe...all this seems to have been second nature to this author. Third, his conversion to Christian fundamentalism simply replaced one form of extreme spirituality with another form. Instead of out-of-body experiences every night, he now felt the presence of Jesus every day. Christianity became his ultimate high. As a New Age believer, Baer had waited for an apocalypse involving space ships. After conversion, he simply changed this to a near-imminent Christian apocalypse, complete with the Antichrist. And just as he had swallowed the entire New Age concept hook, line and sinker, he now accepted even the most extreme Christian ideas. Baer came to believe, as a matter of course, that all New Age supporters would end up in a literal Hell at the speedy return of Jesus! The rest of the book is less interesting. It includes a more encyclopedic overview of the New Age movement, criticizes its commercialism and liberal values, and laments its influence on pop culture. The book ends with a very short outline of the differences between New Age and the form of Christianity embraced by the author. This is not really an important book. However, the first part might take you through a boring train trip or something. But yes, it does raise a lot of questions about the psychological make up of a certain kind of seekers. Baer might indeed have been drunk on "demonic" delusions. But was he ever freed of them? That's the question. |
