Life Changing,
By A Customer
This review is from: Inside Out & Inside Out Study Guide (Paperback)
I have read a couple of other books by Dr Crabb "The Pressure's Off" and "Shattered Dreams" I had never heard of "Inside Out" before and was intrigued by the back cover. So I bought it.Insight out has proved to be life-changing for me. I became aware of areas of sin in my heart that I never even knew existed before. Reading this book was both worthwhile and painful. Dr Crabb tells it like it is, but does so in a humble and loving way. This book will give a lot to think about and ponder and points the way to a deeper walk with Christ. This is a book I intend to read again and again. I think this book should be read by all Christians, including new Christians. But I also definitely think that older Christians will benefit greatly as well. I also like the way that Dr Crabb discusses the importance of genuine repentance and what true repentance looks like. This book offers real solutions to a real problem.

A Life-Changer,
By Ray Powell (rayrich@erols.com) (Virginia) - See all my reviews

Turned my world upside-down. Brought me face-to-face with my hidden motives and forced me to confront the totality of my sin. I've never been the same (thank God!).

Life changing - not for the faint hearted,
By A Customer
This review is from: Inside Out (Paperback)
This is an amazing and life changing book but you have to be ready to confront yourself. The book challenges you to be honest with yourself on a gut deep level. Several times while reading it I had to stop and take time to cry. It was both very painful and very healing. If you are not ready to take an honest look at yourself than you probably won't get it. If you are it is definately worth it.

Reality Check!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Inside Out (Paperback)
Dr Crabb addresses issues in this book that most people try very hard not to think about! He points out that pain exists, that sin is real, and that the world is not perfect.A lot of Christians pretend that life is wonderful even when in fact they are hurting deeply. Dr Crabb explains that it's *okay* to hurt, to be frustrated, to be disappointed, because of the reality of a fallen world! He also explains how the hope of coming perfection is what can keep us "pressing on toward the goal." This book is a must read, especially for anyone who is out there wondering why they don't feel as happy and cheerful as the world says they should!

You can change...Only from the INSIDE OUT!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Inside Out (Paperback)
I first read this book more than 8 years ago, and have made it a habit to read it at least twice a year now. It has changed my life. Particularly heartsearching is the section entitled "Exposing Wrong Directions." Doctor Crabb, noted psychologist, professor, author, and churchman, deals with the issues of the inner longings, deep cravings, and spiritual demandingness in a way that will trouble most believers--but for the good! This book must be read VERY SLOWLY, and very often!

I found this book very helpful as I look at changes I need to make in my own life and as I think about helping others get outside of themselves and see what it means to be a person living the God intended us to live.

Good book but hard to read,
By I. Mansour "Designer" (The Netherlands) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Inside Out & Inside Out Study Guide (Paperback)
I liked this book, he makes really good points on bringing priority into what is really important in life and exposing some common ideas about Christian life that do not come from the Bible. But I think I must read the book again to understand what he is saying, the problem is I don't have the patience to go through his long thoughts again! The book could easily been half of what it is now. So my struggle was more with the style of writing rather than with the contents. and I'm not the only one, we used this book for a group study for about 9 months and the others had similar problems with the style of writing, but we all agreed that it is a good book!
o one more thing, we read it in Dutch!

Dr. Crabb gives insight to God by examining humanity.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Inside Out (Paperback)
For centuries, theologians have based their arguments concerning the sinfulness of humanity on detached interpretations of specific biblical passages. Larry Crabb, a proven clinical psychologist and christian leader, considers the paradoxical impulses of the human heart- self-protection, selfishness, and the desire for relationships- and demonstrates practical steps to reconcile ourselves to the communities and relationships of which we long to be a part. He then discusses scenarios in which the bible makes his point.
His insistence upon embracing pain and seeing confusion as necessary to confidence are not traditional psychological remedies. But yet they comport with our complex reality.
Social and relational healing, according to Crabb, can only occur when we deal with deeper portions of the self. Inside Out is a not a self help book. The reader is helped by realizing the inadequacy of any "self" to be sufficient for meaningful living

This review is from: Inside Out (Paperback)
This is a great book. It is a very deep and rich book, looking at the essence of who we are and why we are like that. This book requires great courage and bravery by the reader as it requires you to look at yourself at your very deepest level. I recommended to anyone looking for a real change of life. A great book

Excellent book for spiritual growth-but you have to be brave,

This review is from: Inside Out (Paperback)
The director of a Christian Psychiatric hospital for which I did some contract work (counseling) told me that, aside from the Bible, this is a book I would really be impressed with, especially if I wanted to make some good changes in my life. It really is excellent. Good for groups, and individual study. It takes a willingness to get out of your "comfort zone", though Try it
