Sophisticated & Funky,
By Dave (Los Angeles, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Inside Out (Audio CD)
This album is exemplary of the best piano oriented medium-tempo contemporary jazz. The mood is consistent from top to bottom; you won't need to hit the skip button on your CD player. The compositions are sophisticated and well conceived, while being performed by some of the best musicians in Los Angeles. There's no pablum in Siegel's compositions, which is prevalent in the smooth jazz genre today. This CD is highly recommended.

Outstanding!,

"Inside Out" is a must have for mellow jazz keyboard enthusiasts.I enjoyed every cut on this album. Dan Siegel is an extremely talented keyboard artist. The sax, guitar, & percussion are all great. I highly recommend this album.

Putting it all together .......................,
By MovieMusic (Nautical Newport) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Inside Out (Audio CD)
Making a top class album requires so many skills at a high level: song writing, playing, arranging, recording, mixing, and more. To my mind, this is the first time in this genre that Dan has pulled it all together (his "Hemispheres" is much more a "world music" album). And it always helps when you can get other top class musicians to contribute, like Boney James' lovely featured sax on "In Your Eyes".Dan's playing early in his career was competent but uninspiring. But he has developed constantly over the years, and is now a genuine A-list keyboardist, as well as a mature, high quality composer.

Not differentiated...,

You will hardly differentiate this album from many others sounding alike. Check Theo Bishop's Newport Nights - same tunes, same tempo, same lack of feelings. It is like chewing a piece of gum that has no taste.
