Editorial Reviews

Review

"Moss elegantly and with great elucidation and precision offers a place for modern seekers to stand centered in the now amid the four directions of past and future, you and me. Readers who enjoyed The Power of Now and are ready to take the next step should gravitate easily to Moss's probing marriage of psychology, the transcendent nature of self, fear, faith and love. The fruits of Moss's many workshop experiences and exercises are cited throughout so as to make this subject surprisingly accessible and make this an especially potent offering." Red Starred Review- Publisher's Weekly 01/15/2007

This is Richard's most clear, concise work to date. (I have read all his books) He shares insights and powerful tools that are accessible to everyone interested in spiritual/personal growth. He covers many difficult topics including, serious illness, death and the "dark feelings" we have all felt. He gently and compassionately invites the reader to expand from the heart. From here he guides them on a path that allows one to move lovingly through these times. He does NOT use strategies but instead shares how to befriend the mystery of the unknowable Present Moment. This is a classic work written from the focused and spacious place he encourages the reader to enjoy.

I was a bit skeptical of this book at the beginning, because it seemed to share the word repurposing used by "new age" self-styled gurus who don't know what they are talking about. But really, there isn't a better way to express the principles and ideas than in using the words as Dr. Moss uses them.

As I continued to read, I found myself drawn ever deeper into an appreciation for Dr. Moss. What he's talking about in the book isn't some "new age" mumbo jumbo. Instead, it's about both the philosophy and a particular methodology of being fully present in what you are doing at the moment. This may sound elemental and seem like one of those "I already nailed that one" things, but it's not.

Being fully present is not something people tend to do. Our very culture works against it, as do the demands of life in general. We are easily pulled in multiple directions at once. Often, we try to live in the past, present, and future simultaneously.

For example, consider a fairly typical situation. A man is having a conversation with his wife. She's telling him about her day while comparing this or that event to something that happened a few months back. He's giving her advice while thinking about the ball game scheduled for later that evening. They are having a collective monologue.

Maybe that example doesn't fit you. But if you will review in your mind conversations you've had earlier in the day you will probably see a similar pattern. Instead of focusing on the now, each person is bringing something else to the table. They aren't truly engaging each other.

And that's just conversations. The same issue arises in other ways. For example, why do you experience stress if you are behind on a project?

If you read only one book this year, this is should be the one. Reading Dr. Moss' book has had a significant impact on the way I am experiencing severe unremtting chronic pain from an as yet unknown source that has been occurring over many months. My favorite chapter in the book is chapter 8 "Embracing Your Dark Feelings."

I have known Richard Moss for many years and experience him to be one
of the "real deal" teachers. All of his teachings and books, including Inside-Out Healing, offer an invitation for all of us, no matter where we are on our journey,
to go a little deeper, a little wider and fully embrace not only who we are, but that we are. What I love the most about his work is his willingness to share what he knows as a friend... as a fellow traveler on the journey. Richard Moss's workshops and materials do not assume that we do not know anything. In fact, just the opposite. He dignifies all of us by knowing that we each have gifts to offer.
I highly recommend this book and his work for anyone, no matter where you are on the journey to wholeness. He is a clear, compassionate communicator and his offerings reflect the integrity of his life. Bravo Richard! ... Moe Ross

I just finished the Richard Moss's 10 day Radical Aliveness retreat in Ojai, California. It was a life changing experience. Richard Moss has created a compass called "The Mandala of Being" that will continually orient the user to a continuous spiritual awakening. "Inside-Out Healing" gives the reader an excellent overview on how to use the compass. Attend the seminar and learn from the master himself!

Reading this book initiated me into certain levels of feeling that were new to me. In the book, Moss talks about "untamed" feelings--feelings that can at times be sublime and expansive; at other times, they can take you into very dark places, a kind of abyss. These feelings have their origin in the early years of your life, and are perhaps even older; that is, they might be ancient, trans-personal feelings that have nothing to do with you per se. The origin of these feelings is ultimately a mystery, but they are more than worth exploring because of the healing powers that are released from within when you stop resisting your inner reality. To access this deep level of feeling, you have to go beyond the thinking mind. It starts with any "ordinary" emotion that comes up. If you attend to it (i.e., direct your attention to it) without thinking about it, you will see the emotion evolve and deepen into something very new and subtle. While reading this book, I experienced surges of well-being that are impossible to describe. I was also called into the abyss, and know from Moss's guidance that this too is part of the journey. Having an agenda about your feelings ("I only want the good feelings") is just another form of resistance. If you are ready to go on a journey of emotional self-discovery, this book can serve as your guide. Just be open to Moss's message and don't have any preconceptions about what any of this means.
