Book Description

June 30, 2000 156023203X 978-1560232032
Fiction. Lesbian Studies. When hidden passions are brought to light and long-held secrets revealed, either triumph or tragedy can follow. INSIDE OUT explores this dangerous territory through the lives of three very different women. A deeply closeted politician will hurt anyone - even those closest to her - in her ruthless climb to the top. A free-spirited musician, determined to stay true to herself, will do whatever it takes to follow her heart. The woman caught between them struggles to reconcile her lifelong pragmatism with her newly reawakened desires. Set in New York, LA, and Washington. DC, this novel weaves contemporary issues into a compelling tale of political treachery and persistent love.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Carrera's first novel, a lesbian romance, has the makings of an interesting story, but the characters are so over the top that it's difficult not to get totally fed up with them. Destiny, a popular music star (though we're never told what kind of music), and Andrie, an aide to the most wicked congresswoman on the planet, seem on the verge of a relationship, but, naturally, all kinds of things keep getting in the way. Both of these characters are only mildly likable, and instead of being able to escape into a good romance, readers will be left wishing they could escape from these irritating characters. An extremely complicated side plot that sets up all the trouble is almost incomprehensible. Though well meaning, this novel misses the mark. Not recommended.ACaroline Mann, Univ. of Portland Lib., OR

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best!, September 3, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Inside Out (Hardcover)
I literally could not put this book down. Juliet Carrera did a wonderful job of portraying her characters in a way that made them come to life. It is the best piece of lesbian fiction I have read to date. I can't wait until the next installment.

5.0 out of 5 stars I was Turned 'Inside Out', August 15, 2000

This review is from: Inside Out (Paperback)
I am not gay nor am I a woman, so when friends told me I had to read "Inside Out" by Juliet Carrera I was a bit skeptical. It took me awhile to get around to it, but I eventually started it and simply couldn't put it down. Quite frankly it is a good love story: smart, sexy and extremely compelling. I really wanted to know what was going to happen to all the characters. I especially enjoyed the twisted tricks the congresswoman uses to manipulate Andrie. God,I wanted soemone to stick it to her. What a wonderful villain! Everyone should keep their mind open and read this book.

What can I say - I loved this book! I read it practically overnight...I couldn't put it down! Juliet Carrera has crafted a wonderfully written story, with people in it that you're going to love and some you're going to hate - you know, regular folks. This is a story about true passion and what one person will do to protect the one she loves. I really don't want to give away too much of this story but I will say that I read the last few pages with dizzying speed and, by the time I was done, there were tears of happiness in my eyes. Yes, there is a happy ending and that's all I'm going to tell you, except to say read this book! You'll be glad you did!
