I'm going kooky,

What a superb album! Picked it up on the strength of Naive that's been doing a bit of rotation on one of the local music video channels. The whole album is so refreshing, so spinetinglingly good I feel as though i've just discoverd the joy of music for the first time.
A little bit arctic monkeys but not as frantic and more hook-laden. So very british, I love it! Every song is really good, I can't fault it. Very very promising stuff.

They will conquer the world,
By
This review is from: Inside in Inside Out (Audio CD)
The Kooks is the best new band to come out of England since the Who. Aggressive power-pop blended with an incredible sense of musical timing and those ballads mixed in showcase more talent than I've heard in years.
The opening acoustic "want to go to the seaside" and then a power leadin to "do you want to see the world?" The Kooks write incredible songs, plain and simple. While they might not have the post-punk sensibility of their peers like Arctic Monkey and Maximo Park, etc. They make up for it in universal power-pop appeal not unlike the Who did in their early days. Oh la is classic and there just isn't a weak track to be found. When the quirky bands have passed their attraction, the Kooks will be writing their equivalent "Who's Next." On my top five list this year.

A great debut! Believe the hype.,

This debut has generated quite a buzz fueled by significant hype in the UK. But it lives up to the hype, and then some. It sounds like a combination of the Dirty Pretty Things and the Artic Monkeys, with flashes of Ted Leo (See The World), the Knack (Eddie's Gun, the first single), the dub-era Clash (Time Awaits, Got Not Love), etc. Naive, the second single, is a great one too. While not at the level of Ted Leo or the Clash yet, they demonstrate significant songwriting chops, and there are few weak spots. And while very enjoyable on first listen, it still grows on you. Plus, it's just a lot of fun. This is a good one, and a band to watch.

Fantastic British Band (well all british bands are good),
By Jayy Mannon "Jayy" (Glam, Wales) - See all my reviews

This debut from the brighton-based quartet shows what the band are capable of, both in musical and songwriting ability, and all at the beginning of what is sure to be a long and successful career. The album boasts an array of excellent songs of which my favourites are Ooh La, She Moves In Her Own Way, Naive and You Don't Love Me, however the whole album is superb and is a much better debut than that offered by the arctic monkeys. I picked this album for about ?5 but having heard It I would have paid four times as much. The only question that remains is will they make it big in the US, answer: Who cares! there massive in Britain and that's all that really matters.

The Kooks are out,

I am a Brit Pop fan, and it's albums like this which are responsible for my addiction.
"Inside in / Inside out" is the brilliant crackling debut from UK quartet The Kooks, and it has already sold over a million in the UK. Very simple, yet clever and catchy songs that will have you singing along. The first song I heard off "Inside in / Inside out" was "Ooh la", a jangly, catchy song with a raw, affected vocal delivery (nice British accent), and I was hooked. The album contains a plethora of great tracks; the lovely acoustic "Seaside" (which is too brief), the punk energy of "You don't love me", the similar "If only", the bouncy "She moves in her own way", the extremely catchy "Jackie big tits", and the more downbeat ska inflected "Time awaits". "Naïve" (nice scratchy guitars set to a skittery beat) is another brilliant ska inflected tune (covered amazingly well by Lily Allen in an acoustic version, as well as Mutya Buena), as is "I want you back" with great chord progression from deceptively mellow, building to an awesome chorus. My favourite cut has got to be "Match box" which starts off downbeat with scratchy guitars, which explode into a frenetic chorus. A great fun song! One word best describes this album; Irresistible!!!

Long Live The Kooks!!!,

Way to go!!! Another great British band gives us another awesome album yet kept it very Brighton's authenticated music style. Needless to say, The Kooks prove themselves that it is worth waiting for their long awaited debut album. This album is like a canvas that the band used their artistic freedom to paint a colorful and agile picture. At times, songs like 'Ooh La' and 'She moves in Her own Way' takes you back to the late 60's bands like The Kinks, The Jams etc. Album's 1st track 'Seaside' is a short and sweet ballad-acoustic opus. 2nd and 4th tracks are loaded with energy and awesome music collaboration amongst the band members. 'Matchbox' and 'Naive' are the two melodious tracks that you wanna pick up your rhythm guitar to jam with it and add a touch of Rasta style straight from the heart of Kingston Town like The Clash did in their later albums. 'If Only' is another powerful yet creative and melodious track in the album.
Two words to describe this album: Sentiments joviaux. If you like The kooks, then you should check out Maximo Park, Arctic Monkeys, Hard-Fi, Razorlight, The Futureheads, The Subways, The Libertines, Babyshambles etc.

Catchy, Infectious Brit-Pop,

Highly recommended...the Kooks probably deserve the "next big thing" hype more than the Arctic Monkeys do. From start to finish, this is a very fun, bouncy, hook-filled CD...perfect for the start of the spring/summer season. Hope these guys keep coming out with music this good.
