A Blues Guitar Virtuoso!,
This review is from: From the Inside Out (Audio CD)
Wow! How special! How refreshing! How very uncommon it is to find an artist with the soulful integrity of Michael Burks. This first CD is a true reflection Burks' remarkable relationship with his guitar. From Chuck Berry to Jimi Hendrix -- presented with all the verve, clarity, spontaneity and power of Mr. Albert King himself. But it's even better than that. It's as if Burks has the same genetic "stuff" as these legends. With genuine respect for the music he was bred on Michael masterfully transforms the very foundations of electric blues guitar into an elevated contemporary experience that is completely satisfying - and as rock solid as a mountain of granite. This is the genius of Michael Burks. Buy it!

Heard him live in concert - purchased the CD and it sounds exactly the same - AWESOME! Can not understand why he is not more popular. If you like Albert King you will love Michael Burks. Just a matter of time before he blows up bigtime!

I can't believe I actually paid $35 for a single cd.I wasn't familar with Michael Burks when this cd was released but since I love both his other cd's and couldn't find this one at a regular price I took a chance.I'm so glad I did because this is the best of the three. No weak tracks, just good old fashion Chicago blues in the style of Albert King of course.Rockin' blues and great ballads.Get it,you won't be sorry.

I bought this cd together with the albert king- stevie ray vaughan album. so when I put it on, I thought I'd mixed up somewhere, so much does he sound like Albert king both in voice and playing style, at least so I thought at first, but he sure does more than that, this is a real blues album a nice surprise among so many more rock than blues players these days. A cd with 10 excellent tracks out of the 11 on the disk sounds like a good buy to me, so don't hesitate, this is it.

Have the CD - yes, it is out of print but man, can't believe it's going for $150 a used copy. 'Tis a great CD nevertheless, epecially the title track. He sounds a lot like Magic Slim and it is easy to confuse the two when played together. If you like Magic Slim, you'll like Michael Burks and vice versa.

Oh yeah, glad I stumbled on this one!
Mr. Burks can raise the hair on the back of your neck and darn near bring a tear to your eye at the same time. You KNOW them is some good blues when that happens LOL! Blues can sometimes get a bit too predictable, worn out and downright stale. Sometimes when I hear of another new blues player that has hit the scene I'm like, "oh boy here we go, not yet another blues player, like we don't have enough already". Well let me tell you Mr. Burks delivers up some great playing with good vocals and strong songs. Too bad this CD is OOP, but look around you can find it. |
