5.0 out of 5 stars Only for those who are interested in expanding your mind!
After weeks of listening to this CD and sharing it with others, I came to this site to see if the CD was in written format and read these reviews. I am amaze at how we are so different here on our planet. This is a clear example of how we view our world. Some view their world through negativity whereas many of us are thankful for such true information to be shared. Yes, I...

The first part of the lecture Dr. Dyer gives a good recap of what he spoke on his cd set of Excuses Begone;and you always learn something when he speaks. The second half is a bit disappointing. Dr. Northrup takes too long to get on point and then goes too long on the process of conception and the birthing process..but in the end she recovers and the info is really good on how women need to care for themselves first and offers good tips. But from how Dr. Dyer had spoken of her before, I really thought she'd go more into how we can heal our selves (men and women) from an enlightened doctor's perception...she spoke too much on womanly issues - PMS, our hormones, what we go through as women how we need to respect our needs, etc. It was good and nurturing for us as women..and I should have checked out her professional background before I purchased the cd. It wasn't a waste of money, it was a good lecture, but not what I had expected.

Yes, I highly recommend this CD for anyone who can think out of the mainstream road to ill health. Thank you Dr. Dyer & Dr. Northup for this valuable informative information and for all your effort in getting this information and sharing your time with us. I enjoyed your collaboration! Many Blessings, Valarie

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a Wellness Regime-Speakers Just Don't Gel, June 14, 2010
By
This review is from: Inside-Out Wellness: The Wisdom of Mind/Body Healing (Audio CD)
This CD should have been named something else. The title tends to mislead people into thinking they are getting a "wellness regime" compiled by both authors. Instead you get two unrelated talks. When I saw this I wondered what these two could possibly have in common. Although both sell to the New Age Market, they are worlds apart in message, background and perhaps most important here, audience. Dr. Dyer holds a PHD in Educational Counseling from Wayne State, while Dr. Northrup is a Dartmouth trained board certified Gynecologist. Perhaps it is good that they don't actually try to talk to each other beyond Dyers comment that Dr. Northrup has arrived late to his talk and a few references she makes to him.

Dr. Dyer speaks first and is more denominational in his beliefs, touching on the Tao but still strongly Christian. I liked his early work but lost interest when it took that stronger Christian and patriarchal turn. In spite of not having followed his work for quite some time, I didn't hear anything from him that I hadn't heard before. I should perhaps add here that I am not anti-christian and do not dislike his beliefs or Dr. Dyer. I just would not have bought this CD only to hear him.

Dr. Northrup took the mike after him with no real link having been established to what she was about to say. I've listened to Dr. Northrup's CD's and follow her radio program. She is into mind/body medicine and non-denominational woman-centered spirituality. She combines a quick wit with a brilliant mind and is fond of joking with the audience which is almost always female. Unfortunately this audience is mixed, not female and initially seemed more receptive and responsive to Dyer. Some of her early quips which I thought were funny were met with silence. Having taught a few classes where my best humor fell flat, I know how disorienting that can be.

There is a natural order to a lecture and once you change part of it or don't get the anticipated reaction, especially early on, the next topic doesn't always fall in place. I think that is part of what happened here. She pulls it off and the humor starts rolling, but her flow is interrupted again as she tries to work references to Dr. Dyer's work into her talk. As noted, they just don't fit.

Chance are you will buy this talk because you like one speaker or the other. The price is very reasonable for the unabridged Audible version which runs 4 hours and 43 minutes. Many two hour talks by one speaker are the same price. I think combining these two was just a marketing ploy to give both authors the benefit of expanding their fan base. The idea would have worked much better if they had been provided with at least a small patch of common ground to meet on, but perhaps there isn't any.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing but not without merit., July 30, 2010

I purchased this tape upon a recommendation from someone I had met in a museum gift shop. Like a previous reviewer from New Orleans I did not hear anything from Dr Wayne Dwyer that I had not heard before. I had read his book Change Your Thoughts - Change Your Life: Living the Wisdom of the Tao before and had even written a review on it for Amazon.com. I was familiar with his philosophy. I had also read Dr Northrup's The Wisdom of Menopause: Creating Physical and Emotional Health and Healing During the Change, 2nd Edition so I was familiar that she is OB/GYN and, like many more enlightened professionals today, feels that there have been (and perhaps continue to be) too many unnecessary hysterectomies. I agree so no problem there.

What I did seem to hear coming from this DVD seems to be a bias against seeing doctors. This is surprising coming from a physician. Clearly some physicians do seem to be in (probably financially lucrative) alliances with pharmaceutical companies and write too many prescriptions for too many drugs. This should not however be a reason to discourage individuals from having annual physical checkups and receiving flu shots as needed. Correct me if I am wrong, but it seems that Dr Northrup is doing just that. That disturbs me as a postmenopausal woman who dutifully checks up on her health at least yearly to insure that cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL and LDL levels are, at the minimum, WNL (within normal limits). From watching Dr Mehmet Oz daily on television and seeing what he recommends, I think he too would take exception by what is being recommending here. Other that the DVD seems to be OK in other aspects.

I was a little disappointed in this CD. Some of Wayne Dyer's discussion was boring, some was funny, and a small portion gave me something to think about. Dr. Northrup's section had a few interesting tidbits of medical information but was meandering. I never understood the point of it and what she was really trying to get across. I wish I had spent my money on something else instead.
