This "Kindle" edition is not usable on a Kindle. Please note, this review is not for book content, but only for the Kindle Edition of the book. I just want to make sure no one buys this for a Kindle user, since it's unusable for them.

This was a great deal. I was supposed to buy the third edition for my class ($80) but the difference is insignificant. Really good condition.

"Inside Reporting" has always been the best (and only really excellent) introductory book on newswriting. Visually appealing, to the point, and with a bit of humor. This third edition is up-to-date with information about the rapidly-evolving electronic dimensions of journalism.

When I learned that I had to spend around $100 for a textbook, I was not very happy. However, now that I have completed Print Journalism 1 using this book, I can say that money was well worth it.

The amount of examples of great journalism is impressive. Tim Harrower has gathered several excerpts of famous works of journalism in the back of the book and has placed examples of various kinds of writing throughout the chapters. This makes it very easy for students to learn how to utilize different styles of journalism.

The way this book is set up makes it very easy to learn the material. Different subjects are presented every few pages, such as how a newsroom functions and how to write sports pieces. Each section has colorful graphics, helpful hints, exercises, and a lot of pertinent information.

Tim Harrower has done an awesome job presenting information without sounding stuffy or boring. He makes being an editor or journalist sound fun. However, he does write about how the real world functions and how important it is to be a good gatekeeper for your readers. Harrower also does a good job clearly explaining what shield laws are and how reporters function alongside the government.

If you are new to journalism or are taking a class on it, this book can help. It is funny, it is useful, it is informational, it is great.

In short, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn about journalism.

Harrower makes the antithesis of a college textbook. This reads like a magazine with a ton of helpful tips and shorts that will make anyone a better writer! The e-text makes for easy finds, but the paper back version would be a god investment for the shear volume of tips that could be used day to day!

I was quite impressed with this new, up-to-date textbook. The examples and exercises provided are relevant (as opposed to some outdated text book) and interesting. The book's layout is fun and truly kept me engaged throughout. I would recommend this text to any journalism instructor looking to keep his/her students' attention. For students-- if your instructor uses it, you'll like it (and you're lucky that your professor isn't stuffy!).

It is informative, and for a student it is essential (however, just because it is essential doesn't make it good). That aside, the author is arrogant and it shows in his writing. I would also argue that some of his unnecessary and snide comments detract from what he is saying at times. Anyway, it is informative as I said, so, for that reason I give it three stars. I would have given it five, if the guy didn't insert his "I'm so smart" opinion as often.
