5.0 out of 5 stars One of Milsap's best albums of his career., August 17, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Inside (Audio CD)
Ronnie Milsap originally released this album in 1982 on RCA Records. (At the time, he was one their most successful clients.) The album's lead-off single, "Any Day Now" was a #1 country hit and a crossover pop smash. Two other #1's, "He Got You" and the title track followed soon after, but in my opinion the record label overlooked several tracks that would have been excellent choices for singles. First and foremost, the upbeat "Who's Counting" ranks as one of Milsap's best recordings, single or album cut. "Hate The Lies - Love The Liar" was another potential hit oversight. With it's strong pop leanings, it would have fit perfectly with Milsap's backlog of previous country/pop crossover hits. Other outstanding tracks on this package are "Carolina Dreams" and "It's Just A Room". (The latter along with "New Orleans Music" did get some airplay on country radio, but were never officially released as a single.) All in all, this album deserved to be transferred onto CD so that modern-day country music fans can add it to their musical library and enjoy one of country music's true living legends.

5.0 out of 5 stars A long overdue reissue, October 15, 1999
By A Customer

This is a reissue of one of Milsap's early 1980's hit albums. I haven't been able to find it on CD before. It's a must if you're a Milsap fan. Buy it, then email Buddha records and tell them to reissue the rest of Ronnie's 1980s albums.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ronnie Milsap's Finest, June 8, 2000

Back in pre-compact disk days, when this album was first released, many Ronnie Milsap fans were surprised at the choice of singles (another term whose days seem to be numbered.) The first two songs released to the radio "Any Day Now" and "He Got You" are unquestionably its two most forgettable tracts.

Not that there is anything particularly inimical about either cut, but "Inside's" fillers (talk about outdated phraseology) feature five or six songs that could be considered borderline country masterpieces. "Hate the Lies-Love the Liar," "Wrong End of the Rainbow," "Carolina Dreams" and the title song, which was eventually shipped out to radio stations and became an expected hit, rank among the prettiest material ever to come out of Ronnie Milsap's mouth. In fact, these would-be-classics could take a place of honor among the repertoire of any singer.

Ironically remade versions of "Rainbow" by Anne Murray and "Liar" by Dottie West were also denied single status depriving those who don't own the albums of their poetry. "Who's Counting?" a cleverly written, bouncy tune remade by Marie Osmond was released but failed to achieve the hit status it so richly deserved.

Today's so-called country music has little to compare to even a flaccid offering from Ronnie Milsap, but the buried gems found here warranted a spot at the top of the heap during Nashville's heydays.

5.0 out of 5 stars You must listen to this album.........., May 28, 2008

I will try to sum it up in a few lines. This album is in my opinion Ronnie's best, hands down. The quality of material is so deep felt and even more extraordinary is that he creates a feel for the whole thing that goes down to each song, leaving you with a blissful resonant feeling. Im so surprised that many other songs from this compilation are not heard of. This was my first album bought from Ronnie, then after that I looked for the same magic in the ones that followed. Many are good, but none have come close. See for yourself.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of Milsap's best, May 29, 2007
This review is from: Inside (Audio CD)
A treasure trove of the best of early 80s contemporary country sound. Only the oddly out of place 'I Love New Orleans Music' keeps this from 5 stars. Interestingly, some of the best cuts weren't released as singles...Carolina Dreams, Wrong End of the Rainbow, Who's Counting, You Took Her Off My Hands.
