5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best books on this subject for kids of any age

1.0 out of 5 stars Book never received
Order never received by recipient. I don't know if it was lost in shipment, but my grandson and I were very disappointed he never received it.

I did not want to rate this transaction, under the circumstances but amazon's review is insistant on a rating.

I have a fairly sizeable collection of Titanic books, but until now I had nothing written and illustrated specifically for children. Ken Marschall is a consummate illustrator and his artwork in this book is stunning. One of the important things is that the story is about two real children - one in first class; one in steerage - who were actually on the Titanic. While, even for kids, there can be no happy ending to this story, the book follows the main characters' lives past the sinking and rescue, into adulthood, and till their deaths. The story is written with low-key emotion, and is more factual than overwhelmingly sad. The story of the Titanic is almost 100 years old but the lessons we learn from it today are as important as those learned back in 1912. It's an important true story, well worth purchasing to read with your kids.

Inside the Titanic Book Review

Frank's room is a tiny third-class cabin. Billy and his family are traveling in a luxurious suite. But both boys are thrilled to be on the first voyage of the greatest liner ever built. They can't wait to explore every deck of this fabulous new ship. Read this book and you can follow "two young passengers as they explore the Titanic from top to bottom". This book is by Ken Marshall. I liked it because it showed and told how it sank. So I hope you like Inside the Titanic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Big book for small Titanic fans!!, January 20, 2007
This review is from: Inside the Titanic (A Giant Cutaway Book) (Hardcover)
I purchased this book for my 4 and a half-year-old son, which is now fascinated by all things Titanic. I felt the tragic nature of the story; the excessive text of most books and the content of the movies were not suitable for kids. When I found this book I knew it would be just right for a him.

The size of the book was the first thing that amazed my son. Then he was impressed with the dominant artwork inside. Marschall's illustrations are simply wonderful. He's indeed a great artist and an expert when it comes to the Titanic. The book illustrates the great ship, its interiors and it's ultimate demise as it follows the story of two real-life children that were aboard the Titanic on her maiden voyage.

My son was so excited after we finished the book that he insisted to take it to school where his teacher had a reading for the whole class.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great book., November 13, 1999

Many other people have said what the book is lacking in factualdetail. The book is meant for children who usually aren't interestedin water tight bulkheads and how a steam engine works. The paintings are superbly executed by ken marshal, the leading authority on how the titanic looks. If you want to see more of his work, he has a book with many of his paintings in it called ken marshal's art of titanic. It is a great book also.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ken Marshall's work, June 5, 2001

As always, Ken Marshall's depictions of the liner are as true to life as he can make them, making this book an invaluable reference in my model bulding and serves as an excellent link to remind people that behind that steel skin was a huge floating place of temporary residence, containing all the opulence of the finest european hotels inside a giant steel structure. Definitely worth having in an ocean liner book collection, especially if you like Titanic and her sisters.

My 4 year old son got this book from his Nana for Christmas. He wants to read it every night. It is filled with great pictures, including a huge 4 page fold out. The pictures are colorful and very detailed. It is also filled with great facts, and even a story. Couldn't ask for a better book on the Titanic.

My five-year old son recently became obsessed with the Titanic, so I was very pleased to see that there are actually books written and illustrated with children in mind. However, the illustrations and the information in this book were interesting to me as well! Very well done - highly recommended for kids of all ages!

I bought this book for my 5 1/2 year old grandson who cannot get enough Titanic information. The book is beautiful, especially the centerfold which opens to a 30 inch cutaway of the entire ship. It's not overwhelming with frightful information; a great book for any age.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Just For Children, March 15, 1998
This review is from: Inside the Titanic (A Giant Cutaway Book) (Hardcover)
Although this book was meant for kids - everyone will certainly enjoy it! I bought it for my nephews this past Christmas. (11 and 9 years old) James Cameron's film had just come out. The boys hadn't seen it, but they were interested in the disaster. When I saw this book I knew they'd love it! I honestly thought about keeping it for myself! Beautiful illustrsations and a captivating story. You really get the feel of how immense this ship was to two very young boys. It may not be exactly accurate - but it was designed as a children's book and not as a practical schematic for engineers. If you have kids who are interested in the Titanic disaster ( or if you're a history buff) I highly recommend this one!

4.0 out of 5 stars Giant Cut-away Book, September 23, 2005
By
This review is from: Inside the Titanic (A Giant Cutaway Book) (Hardcover)
It was a very interesting book. As the title indicates, it shows numerous cut-away pictures of the inside of the Titanic. It was nice to see where dining rooms, sitting rooms, the gym, the pool, etc were in relation to each other and the cabins and state rooms of the passengers. Good book for middle school aged children.
