This book guides you step-by-step through the world of the Maximum-security US Penitentiary on Alcatraz Island. Written by a former correctional officer, this book offers first-hand views of things occuring in the institution.

This book has a history of Alcatraz, from the prisoners to the closing to the present. I highly reccomend this book for anyone's reading enjoyment.

I read this book after I saw the movie "The Rock." After reading this book I knew about everything about the schedule, inmates, and basic inmate life. I didn't need to read another Alcatraz book. It's simply great.

"Inside the Walls of Alcatraz" is still in publication by the author, Frank Heaney. It basically is sold at the Alcatraz Book Store on Alcatraz, Alcatraz Enterprises' Cell Block 41 Gift Shop at Fisherman's Wharf Pier 41, and Alcatraz Cafe & Grill at Pier 39, San Francisco. I went to California this summer, one of the stops I made was to Alcatraz Island...while I was there, Frank Heany was there, and we got him to sign our book and he talked about being a guard there...I didnt get to hear the whole speach because my dad was impatient...but I read most of the book on the ride home....it was very informative, and it made me want to learn more about Alcatraz...definately recommended

According to the seller the book i purchased was new but i found an autograph by the author to some girl name Kelly. Other than that the book was in good condition.
