5.0 out of 5 stars A Gem Lost in the Seattle Hype, November 7, 2004
This review is from: Inside Yours (Audio CD)
When I first heard this album it was several months before "Nevermind "was released. I had already been turned on by Nirvana, Tad, Green River, Soundgarden and Mudhoney. It didn't take me long to get addicted to this record. Heavy yet Melodic, "Inside Yours" was as impressive and real as anything that was coming out of Seattle at the time.
A lot has been said in terms of what influenced grunge in its form. Most point to a collision of punk and arena rock, which is indeed true, however the influence of 70's era funk was evident in the sence that a lot of 'grunge" though heavy and aggressive, had a groove not found in other forms of hard rock (excepting of course, bands who wore their funk influences on their musical sleeves like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Primus and Big Chief)
In grunge that funk influence was more sublime, more integrated and thus giving the melodies and power chords a sense of motion which made for some compelling music. Gruntruck embodied this with tracks like "Paint" and "So Long" which bust into power funk tangents amid the sweat and leather aesthetic, giving the general sound a psychedelic elegance that typified "grunge". All art-phaggy posturing aside, I sum this record up as just plain rockin' and is a document of the last truly innovative movement of Rock and Roll.

a near perfect album from a band that hailed two of the original members of the all too famous "the accused". Tommy Niemeier plays
rythum and leads on both gruntruck releases and chewy, the bass player from "the accused" joins for the second album from gruntruck...."inside yours". What a shame that the third album was never released due to contract problems. I had the pleasure
of attending the record release party and hearing the album in its entirty live one time. This is a must have record and to see it up at such a rediculous price is offending at best. Every song is a smash and it never gets old.
