Insightful!,
This review is from: 10 Insider Secrets to a Winning Job Search (Paperback)
This guide to job hunting may provide a practical boost if you're looking for a job. It recaps some of the most widely known and broadly discussed tips about job seeking, and presents them clearly and concisely. Though it has little that is brand new, it does put some things in a different, positive light. Author Todd Bermont backs up his book with a website and provides details about his 10 recommendations. While they may not really be secrets, they amount to an organized 10-step path to finding a new and better job. Bermont is chatty, and uses conversational (as opposed to textbook) grammar, as he boosts your self-confidence and assures you that the perfect job is out there, if you search for it the right way. His first three steps urge you to deal with your own assets and wishes before you begin to contact prospective employers. However, once you are ready for that step, he makes sure you know how to proceed with the right resume, contact strategy and interview technique. We recommend this book to those who are searching for entry level or mid-level jobs. It may not be quite sophisticated enough to open doors into the executive suite, but when you're out of work your job becomes finding a job - and this book will help.

A shining light,
By Top Producer 1 (Vernon Hills, IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 10 Insider Secrets to a Winning Job Search (Paperback)
The best career advice I was given recently was to buy the book "10 Insider Secrets to a Winning Job Search." I did so because I was at a point to where I didn't know what I wanted to do for a living or how to get the job I wanted after I figured it out.
This book helped me in both areas. To get the most out this book, don't skim through it or read it all at once. Instead, treat it like a you would taking a course. It won't necessarily be as easy as the title would lead you to believe, because the book guides you through a process of self-discovery and positioning yourself to succeed. Both of which requires time and energy. But if you work with it, it can really help you focus on what's important to you in a career and in life. Since you have to work for most of your life, the key is to get a job that will make you feel proud and satisified. I recommend this book to everyone who's trying to work through the frustrations of deciding what to do and how to pay the bills without losing your mind or your essence. I also recommend the author's workbook called "10 Insider Secrets: Career Transition Workshop." Both worked for me. If you are bummed out and tired of being frustrated this book will be a shining light that will help you succeed.

If you want a common sense book that will show you exactly how to find the job you want, "10 Insider Secrets to a Winning Job Search" is your book. Unlike other job-hunting books that have been in print for over 30 years, this book is filled with fresh ideas for today's tough times. It is conversational and speaks to me. I would highly recommend this book to any job seeker.

Finally, there is a book that provides a step-by-step guide to getting a great job - fast! "10 Insider Secrets to a Winning Job Search: Everything You Need to Get the Job You Want in 24 Hours - Or Less" is the first job-hunting book I have seen that covers everything that is essential from finding the right job to actually getting it and negotiating it at a top dollar.Unlike the Parachute book that wastes tons of pages on starting your own business or the Knock'em Dead book that just focuses on the job interview, this book covers everything a job seeker would need. Also, the author shares one question in particular that you can ask at the beginning of the interview that will almost guarantee a great interview. Once I asked that question up front, I almost always got a job offer. It makes so much common sense, but until this book, I never thought to ask it before. This book also shares many secrets I did not originally know like "don't send your resume to HR" and "an interviewer makes a decision in the first 90 seconds of an interview." I found the chapter on preparing for the interview especially helpful. Almost all, of the 65 sample interview questions, that, the book shows how to answer have come up at some point in my interviews. Finally, with all of the negative headlines we see today about the war, economy, etc., it is refreshing to read a book that is so upbeat and puts you in such a positive frame of mind. I would recommend this book to anyone who is thinking of getting a new job, just graduating, or anyone who is out-of-work and wants to get a great job - fast!

Wow... this book really worked,

Following the advice in 10 Insider Secrets to a Winning Job Search, I got the most ideal job I could have ever hoped for. Even though I was the last to interview and the company had already decided they wanted to hire someone else, because I embraced the secrets in this book I won the job! The two chapters that helped me the most were Chapter 4 on developing a business case and Chapter 9 which focused on preparing for the questions you are most likely going to get asked. Chapter 4 helped me convey that the company would receive a much higher Return on Investment (ROI) by hiring me. Chapter 9 got me fired up and totally prepared. Almost every question I was asked in the interview was given in Chapter 9. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is serious about finding a new job!

Four job offers in less than a month,
By Just Got Hired "Just Got Hired" (Chicago, IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 10 Insider Secrets to a Winning Job Search (Paperback)
Recently, I re-entered the workforce after four years of being in my own business. What I initially encountered when sending out resumes and interviewing was extremely frustrating. I thought I had great credentials and tremendous quantifiable accomplishments. What I discovered very fast was that many companies didn't care because I was either too old to be considered or my rolodex wasn't good enough.
Then, I read both "10 Insider Secrets to a Winning Job Search" by Todd Bermont and also went through Todd's two-hour paperback workshop "10 Insider Secrets Career Transition Workshop." After completing both books, I discovered that I was interviewing for jobs that I wasn't truly passionate about. I realized that my lack of enthusiasm was translating into job-hunting frustration and failure. After reading both books, I decided to go into a totally new industry where I had absolutely no experience. Oddly enough, I got four job offers in less than a month after reading both books and redirecting my efforts. Now I am working for a company that totally fit my criteria for the ideal company and I found a job that still allowed me to foster my entreprenerial spirit. I can't say enough positive things about these two books. If you are frustrated in your job search you need to read both "10 Insider Secrets" books.

Great book for those in the Business Industry,
By Rachel Duzan (Kentucky) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 10 Insider Secrets to a Winning Job Search (Paperback)
I have almost finished reading this book and I think the author really knows what he's talking about. The only drawback I have is that I am in the Healthcare Industry. The author refers a lot to the Business/ Marketing/ etc. Industry. However, even though I would have liked a book that was more in line with my career...this is a really good book. I feel much more confident about finding a job since reading this book. He starts at the beginning with knowing who you are...to the end of geting the interview and landing the job you want.

Practical Advice for Today... And it Works!,
By P L (Santa Rosa, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 10 Insider Secrets to a Winning Job Search (Paperback)
I got a hold of 10 Insider Secrets just as I was laid off from a corporate job. I loved the fact that you could get the information about an effective job hunt so easily! It's a no-nonsense book that gets right to the point. The layout of the book helps you to quickly access the things you want to find out about.
There really are some great "insider" tips included. I used Todd's advice about scheduling interviews, which made so much sense, but that I'd never thought about before. I actually got a job offer the very first time out! And Following Todd's advice about resumes got me callbacks on almost every resume I sent out on the internet-- quite a feat, when you consider how many hundreds of resumes companies get via e-mail. If you are job hunting, this is a must-read!

This book is especially great for those people who aren't sure what their life purpose is, or what type of career they would really be happy in. Teenagers, young adults and adults of all ages would find this book to be very helpful in deciding what career path they should take for complete happiness. It's a real "how to" book, and the author's methods work. The material covered in this book is easy, fast reading and fun.

24 hours? It's possible....,
By Chandra Prasad (New Haven, CT) - See all my reviews
This review is from: 10 Insider Secrets to a Winning Job Search (Paperback)
The title of this book is obviously the biggest draw. We all know that finding a job can be a challenging-even grueling-process. It requires dedication, the willingness to make contacts and to put yourself out there, the right information and interviewing techniques, and yes, even time. I admire the author for trying to consolidate both hours and information; he does a laudable job of giving advice on all stages of the job hunt. Even so, some of the information here is a little simplistic. The more you invest in your job search, the better your chances of landing a job that truly satisfies your personal and professional wishes. So buy this book, study it well, but count on a month, or two, rather than a day.
