The toughest decision beginning woodworkers face is which tools to buy. Some tools are considered essential, while others are luxuries or, depending on one's type of work, can be skipped completely. It is frequently hard to distinguish between quality and inferior tools just by appearance or to know if the improved features of a "pro quality" tool are worth the extra expense. The editors of Popular Woodworking have created an excellent guide that addresses these concerns and should prove helpful to both beginning and experienced woodworkers. Nearly every variety of power tool is covered, from air-powered tools to table saws, and the differences in performance between hand-held, benchtop, and stationary models is explained. Sections on individual tools tell how they are used, who needs one, the features available, and what to look for when purchasing. Colorful pictures of tools supplement the text. Other sections cover motors (the best and most easily understood explanation this reviewer has seen), pro tools, and buying tools on the web. This title won't replace the excellent, in-depth reviews of specific tools published in Taunton's Fine Woodworking and Fine Homebuilding or Better Homes and Gardens' Wood. However, it does provide a wealth of helpful information beyond the scope of these periodicals. A good resource,

This book gives a great overview, tool by tool, of what to look for when your in the market for a new power tool. It explains the terminology used in specs, reviews features that are useful, and gives you thoughts to consider when comparing different models. It does NOT make editor's recommendations, or recommend specific brands or models.

Vendor Listed NEW copy of book, I ordered it, I received a USED copy.,

Update: Once the vendor understood the problem, they immediately refunded me half the incredibly low price which I appreciated despite the refund being less than the price of a cup of coffee these days. I most appreciated the vendor acknowledging the problem and acting upon it, no matter how little the product cost.
Original problem: Vendor Listed NEW copy of book. I ordered the NEW copy. The packing slip said NEW, but there was a hand-written notation saying "USED - LIKE NEW" below the order for NEW. The book I received was used. I'm disappointed that this vendor did not deliver the goods as advertised, purchased and expected. I've communicated this information to vendor twice. 1st response indicated that they did not understand the problem from my 1st email. It has to be tough to be in this business, dealing with different publications of new, used, out of publication books and everything in-between.
