Book Description

July 1, 1997
As a principal in an A/E/P or environmental consulting firm, you've assumed a lot of risk and made a lot of sacrifices. If you're like most principals, much of your real payoff doesn't come until you sell your interest in the firm. Here is a revised edition of the best-selling introduction to a handful of ways for professionals to reap from their investment in a firm. Topics include how to sell internally, how to start an ESOP, how to sell to an outside buyer, how to effect an orderly and profitable shutdown of a firm, how to plan an estate as a business owner, even how to "go public," and more. New to the second edition are chapters on structuring an internal buyout and transfers involving the family, plus many new examples, war stories, recommendations, and more. Readers will be introduced to the options available for cashing in on their equity, whether they're minority shareholders or sole proprietors. They'll be armed with the knowledge to maximize the value of their equity and minimize tax consequences. And they'll be prepared to make the best possible choice for cashing in what is probably their single biggest asset.
