5.0 out of 5 stars Great Resource for College Bound High School Students, August 20, 2000
This review is from: The Insider's Guide to the Colleges: 2001 (Paperback)
Upon first glance, this book appeared to be just like any of the twenty other college guide books I saw in the bookstore. However, the insightful opinions of actual students attending the colleges make this publication an invaluable read. It helped me immensely in finding the school that most appropriately fit my needs. The articles on SUNY Buffalo and SUNY Stony Brook deserve particular attention for their informative nature. Seek no other resource, this one has it all!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best college guide out there!, May 26, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Insider's Guide to the Colleges: 2001 (Paperback)
Written by students, this book distinguishes itself from other college guides in that you really get a good feel for the school, its social atmosphere, and its academics. Topics covered are eating and sleeping facilities, social life, alcohol, accessibility and friendliness of professors, the level of competition between students, extracurriculars, and much, much more! I'd recommend this book to anyone looking at colleges!

4.0 out of 5 stars More than just numbers, February 28, 2001
This review is from: The Insider's Guide to the Colleges: 2001 (Paperback)
I like this book a lot because it tells me information I want to know that I haven't been able to find anywhere else such as whether or not the student body is mostly liberal or conservative or whether or not alchol makes the scene at certain colleges. It gives the students' perspectives. You can find the student faculty ratio and freshmen retention rate anywhere. This is the book to read if you want to know more than just the statistics.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Lovely Overview, February 1, 2002
This review is from: The Insider's Guide to the Colleges: 2001 (Paperback)
This book (which I just ordered on January 17th and which is currently sitting on my desk next to SAT registration forms), while not ideal, is well-written and a gem for college bound juniors and seniors. As a junior in high school, I'm in the midst of college research and SATs, and being able to get an honest overview of a college is extremely helpful. There are more than three hundred colleges covered in this 900-something page book, including Oberlin, Tufts, and Brandeis, three of my chosen colleges thus far. You will need another source for your college search, as this book does not cover statistics and scholastic requirements so much as what the college is actually like, but I would recommend buying this book once you've narrowed your choices down to certain classes of colleges (state, size, private or public).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book. A must have., April 22, 2001

This review is from: The Insider's Guide to the Colleges: 2001 (Paperback)
This book is one of the most informative books about colleges I've ever bought. This gives in your face information and not information from glossy college brochures. It is very useful because you get to hear from students who attend the particular college of what they feel about it. You can't get this info any where else. It centers mostly on the social aspects of the college but it also gives you which programs are the strongest, which are the weakest, if teacher's assistants dominate the classes, etc. This is definitaly a must have book.
