3.0 out of 5 stars Somewhat helpful, January 27, 2011
By
young banker (Minneapolis, MN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Insiders' Guide to Denver, 9th (Insiders' Guide Series) (Paperback)
I purchased this book because I will be taking a 4 day trip to Denver this summer, and also because I am considering living in Denver. Although the book does have good information, I didn't find it extremely helpful or interesting. I was hoping it would have more insider tips and advice, but it seemed pretty generic in my opinion. While it wasn't bad, it wasn't great either. I think I will purchase a different Colorado book before traveling there...

2.0 out of 5 stars Ho-hum guide with terrible typography, few graphics, October 7, 2011
This review is from: Insiders' Guide to Denver, 9th (Insiders' Guide Series) (Paperback)
This guide could have been so much better. There are only 2 maps and no photos at all. Yes, there are lots of listings and it includes web sites, but it's just that--listings and more listings. It's just not very compelling or interesting. I think it's a stretch to call it an "insider's" guide, but that's just marketing. I get that.

One thing I dislike is the typography: the text is so fine and faint that it can be difficult to read. Were they trying to save ink costs or something? It's funny that they actually credit the book designer! She should be fired. I also saw the guide to Boulder and RM National Park. Same comments go for that book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book About Denver, November 24, 2009
This review is from: Insiders' Guide to Denver, 9th (Insiders' Guide Series) (Paperback)
THE INSIDERS' GUIDE TO DENVER, 9TH EDITION is a great book about Denver and its environs. It tells you all you need to know about recreation, dining, nightlife, shopping, and sightseeing. The outdoors-related section is essential for anyone who wants to lose weight so that they won't need to wear clothing made in countries that jail foreigners for trumped-up crimes. The section on radio stations is great although the listing of classic rock station KRFX in the "Oldies" category should, quite frankly, be taken like the humor in THE GARDEN STATE or SIMPLY IRRESISTIBLE. However, the listing for the area's other classic rock station, KQMT, is much more accurate (it's listed under "Rock"). This book is a must-own for anyone interested in the West.
