Dick McHugh has written innumerable articles and three books on the history and culture of the Great Smoky Mountains. He lives in Gatlinburg.

In addition to the comprehensive information you'd expect in a guidebook (dining, lodging, attractions, etc.) you'll also find other essential information including local history, education, media, and real estate. You can even plan a Smoky Mountain wedding using the information in this guide!

We have been going to this area for over 30 years so we are very familiar with the mountains. This book has a very good variety of details that would help in planning any new comers trip. Some of the shows in Pigeon Forge are no longer in business so you may need to keep that in mind while planning your trip. I would also recommend visiting a trip advisory on the internet to see what shows rated well.
